Kicker claim that someone put one of their 8inch square subs in a car, A SINGE SUB, and that it got to 147.5db The sub used is the most innefficient I have seen.. 🙁 Its rated at 450watts RMS... BUT STILL!!!
http://www.kicker.com/ShowPage.cfm?filename=03krazy8.htm
The sub is 84.9db 1w/1m PRETTY WEAK!!!

Thats pretty good.. 🙂 yeah, I know, a laptop HD... but thats wasn't really the problem... I can run the hd off another powersupply, but the motherboard needs to be run from a sinlge supply, and I dunno if mine is powerfull enough.. 🙂 Thanx for the help.. 🙂
Whats the current record? and whats a vehicle? could I make an electric go kart that flattens its batteries in like 60seconds, but that has a HUGE motor, and nothing else.. (Perhaps a roll cage.. 🙂)
Sawzall said:Boy am I glad I was busy when the great debate about bass in cars was going on. I have measured 115dB all the way down to 25Hz in *my* car - done with 2 10" subs driven by 150w per driver. Same box in my living room driven by my DH-500 never got near that low or that dB.
Skinny - if you are concerned about power useage for a PC HD, pick up one of the 2.5" formfactor drives used in laptops. No idea about prices downunder, but here you can buy 20gb for $80, or less used.

Hard to find but I have seen some (don't know what they are called) large desktop type IDE connector to 2.5inch laptop HDD connector cable. If you cannot fine one... get the pinouts and make your own adapter on a PCB. Not knowing the sproggy PS I would just say parallel some together (may cause problems).
The current record is something like 300mph, u need hundreds of kw of motor power, big big IGBT (or similar) to turn them on and off and the rules are you have to do the run twice over a certain distance.

Overclocking cars can be good fun to, but sooner or later you overwind them and break the mainspring.SkinnyBoy said:I'm having too much fun TRYING to overclock [the computer] to its limits.. 😀

Yes, I have seen actual swear words offensively used and no action by moderators - this does not add up to consistency in my books.

Calm down Al - the above is just a little joke, fer crise sakes, and cannot be directed at any body on the planet whatsoever.

Dave, please refresh me about exactly what you mean.

The Right Of Reply.
Thankyou Dave for providing the reference - so ...
'Hi Joel,
NO not the end of it !.
Your first post deserves a kick in the butt for you audacity and uninformed stupidity."
See Joels first provocative quote.
"Your above reply deserves a kick in the butt for such a weak comeback."
See Joels second quote to see the inadequate backpedaling.
You have been perhaps overly voiceiferous lately - pull your head in (aussie expression) and people will listen.
This was my response to other similarly provocative and unwelcome posts from Joel, that interfered with and detracted from several discussions.
Old sayings - 'Be sure brain is engaged before putting mouth into gear', and 'Better to keep your mouth shut and let the world think you are a fool, than to open your mouth and confirm it.'
Ok, father mode off.
Exactly that - kindly fatherly words.
Read again what I said, and you will see that whilst earnest in meaning, is to be taken in a humourous manner.
Dude you are in knowing company here.
A comment that others around here have understanding and experience of things like tube covers, and said in a peer to peer manner.
Reasons for Marshall tube covers is that they stop the tubes falling out of their sockets under the usually pretty extreme vibrations conditions that they are commomly subject to.
A perfect explanation is it not ?.
The material of these covers does effect - ever heard brass tube covers ?.
A past observation on my part, and a polite question.
Unfortunately Joel has not responded to this question.
So you see, if you review my original post in its intended light, it becomes more clearly obvious that no harm was intended, nor infact insult was forthcoming from me at all.
So Dave, if you choose to misinterpret my post, then you could be well viewed as being guilty of non-impartiality I would say, and indeed, is it not a case of percieved non-impartiality that is very much the core of some recent problems ?.
Respectfully, over to you.
Eric.

John, I'm not arguing with anyone about cans. I made a comment. That was the end of it.

BEESWAX.
Hi,
Ah, and of course we members are just a pain....
Note please that Joel has made a really small U-turn recently.
He actually waxes lyrical about a brand of caps....
Makes me wonder why he didn't hear a difference before...and argued and argued.
Then there is Joe (Burned Fingers) who asked for help on his copy, yes a copy of a circuit Joel had proposed...nothing worked out.
Ask him about the number of private mails he sent, not to mention mister Joels response when asked questions.
No, it had to be the members sorting it out, in private , mind you...and to add insult to injury mr.J acted as if his nose was bleeding...no, worse still, it was the builder's mistake.
See why we get upset sometime?
Hold on..I am looking for my sense of humour...next time you mods do the work, please for that is what should be your job.🙁
Ciao,

I am deeply shocked.

Maybe So.
Hi,
Not to my knowledge and not to me, but don't you think it is a shame that members have to sort out problems with something so trivial as a preamp?
I don't mind helping out other people at all but the originator should have the sense to carry the project through, we call that moral responsibility in my part of the woods.
No doubt people ask for advise all the time in private e-mails, I can hardly keep up, but when on the forum one should have the courtesy to carry one's project through?
Cheers,😉
