- metal front grill -cleaned, having little cracks on the top holding parts
- back cover cleaned
- wood parts - ugly re coated (with cheap oil and black parts with cheapest spray)
*most of the screws lost, waiting for order.
*Waiting for electronic parts to.
*having the epoxy for attempt to try to fix treble panels, have to order some primmer to make this gluing stronger
*Having some conductive paint as spry from copper for treble restoring.
*if the treble restoring will fail, I will buy a new pair.
I cant find lots of time to work on this speakers.
I finish to read at least 4 guides (including yours) about restoring (and yes, I know about the method that you use to remove the wax 🙂 )
Cant complete all the things at once because of enormous amounts of unplanned orders.
The unplanned spend is too high and unplanned!
I found the fact this this restoring will not completed in one or two weeks.
so I decided to make lots of works in parallel, bad decision.
I took lots of pictures and marks:
- first of all to remind me the connect order.
- second, I want to write some summery about my work.
- I want to get feedback and safe money and life for wrong attempts, This thread bring me lots of support to continue on this enormous project.

now I remember to actually test if all parts will fit.
I think just to use some internal fuse or plan another hole.

Tried to order some screws but it doesn't fit, the step is too high
ordered from: 3/16" 1/4" BSW Allen Bolts Full Threaded Socket Head Cap Screws A2 304 Stainless | eBay
Have only 6/8 original screws with flat screwdriver.
will be glad to get some suggestion which screw/bolts to buy instead.

but I lost one and one housing and they hold too weak
Side plates screwed
all the nails removed from the (speaker treble holder and the) foots so I added some screw instead.
*planned to add more screws but I think that its enough

that pull the the top part down (intead unscrew the bottom screwes and pull it from the bottom)
He said: "you can clear it from inside like this"

No matter the result, you have a lot of experience you didn't have before. You know much more about how they work and what parts are difficult. If you want Quads longer term, that will be helpful.
Thumping noise
This is a hijack!
My beautiful quads have developed an issue. These were rebuilt just a couple of years ago by quads unlimited. I was playing a song at normal volume but it has a deep bass drum kick. One bass panel started making an odd thumping noise and continues to at lower bass sounds now. For normal music I don’t hear it. It’s more techno. Could this be a split membrane?

It could be a split dust cover. Does the bass panel make any noise? A split diaphragm will usually render the panel silent.

I have the front off so i know the front dust cover is fine but it could be the back i suppose. It’s still making good bass, just at lower hz and higher volumes it’ll thump. I’ll remove the rear grill and see if its the back dust cover.

The original quads are pretty rickety these days, the very newest ones are 35 years old and could be 62. The diaphragms get brittle, the dust covers get brittle, etc. It’s not surprising at all that when pushing the speaker, that something gave.

The thing is they’re completely rebuilt from only a couple of years ago by quads unlimited so it should all be new. Is it normal for new membranes or dust covers to split due to bass? I’m away for a few days so won’t get a chance to check until next week.

-all the paths resoldered
- general path got damages and replaced with wires between the caps and 1500v+6000v outs
-put the vishay 1000v*2 diodes 4007
-put the poly____ whatever capacitors (they known as more stable then the ceramic but take to much place)
- still not end
- check the diodes twice
- 1500v+6000v outs soldered 1 resistor for each of 20Mohm, forgot which one have to receive addition 20Mohms
