I seem to recall this story emerging a couple of years ago.
Buying an old respected trademark seems to be the latest fad, as though somehow the engineering skill which was originally associated with that mark will permeate the new generation. Usually it doesn't.
Soon someone will be able to put 'Mullard' valves in a 'Hafler' amplifier.

Done and done, see the HA75 headphone amp. Gives me an idea for the DH101 in storage.
i wouldn't mind seeing the same design team (whoever is still alive) do a "next generation" XL-280. the input stage would be tough without topology changes, though.

No mention of kits, which I think is what put the Hafler / Dynaco names on the map. Back in the mid 70s to early 80s, I must have assembled a hundred or so of various Hafler kits from the DH101, 110 pre-s to DH200, 220 & 500 power amps. At over 50lbs, the 500 was a bit of a pig to manipulate around on the work bench - about the same as the tubed MarkVI must have been.
ah, those were the days

I did my own version of the Dyna Stereo 70 (see pic). And my main system, a tri-amp'd open baffle satalite/woofers setup has two Hafler DH220s for mid and woof. My ST70 inspired amp does the tweeters. I have no complaints.
Respected brand names have been selling for many decades. Few are what they once were. That's not always necessarily a bad thing.
