Hi Dirk

Are you going to make it Solid state or tube amp?

Chris

Hi Dirk, I did the same thing for my son. Just 4 input mixer and 3 tones. All pre-amps are class a, the mixer has TL072's and with gain change resistors so that he can play with background music from his pc changing the stereo to mono and use 2 guitar players from the same guitar amp.

Best wishes with the project.
Chris

When I built a father/son guitar amp, I designed an all octal Fender Champ clone and had him solder it up. He also got to learn how to use a DVM and a scope. Great time.

I used an old Squier cabinet I bought off of craigslist, pulled the old electronics out and punched some holes for tube sockets. I think I had all the parts (including iron) so it was very cheap to make.

He loves it.

congrats, my son also loves the amp I made for him. He uses it to listen to the movies on his pc and plays all his guitars on it, sometimes along with bands that he likes. I will be long dead and this amp will still make good sound.
