Hi-

Did you use a diode on the LEDs with the additional windings?

I didn't see one in the pictures.

Thanks,

Troy

No I did not. LEDs are diodes by themselves so they turn on and off 60 times a minute and use only one half of the AC "wave". This frequency bothers me when it's a computer screen. The diodes don't. That's why I put them that way. If it had bothered me, I would have connected them on a DC rail firther down the electrical path.

Hi folks.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is correct, please.

I haven't shown any fuses (mains) as I'll be using an integrated fuse/IEC/power switch plus I got lazy 😀 It's only showing the one channel and doesn't show the ground connection to mains either.

This is only the second amp I've built and I got babystepped through the first so I'm just trying to clarify. If it's okay then I can print it out and have it beside the project. If it's ******ed then I haven't hurt anything.

Oh yeah, in Oz we use brown for hot and blue for neutral, hence the colours 🙂

TIA 😀

Hi BlackDog.

Thankyou for replying! 😀

Yep, the star ground will be screwed to the chassis base with mains and channel 2 hookep up to it just as soon as I find a nice chassis 🙁 Jaycar, DSE, Altronics have, erm, pretty average gear. I want something smallish and nice. I think I'll try and source some aluminium and make one myself.

Thanks again 🙂

Lazyfly,

Yep, very little choice of nice looking equipment cases over in NZ as well. Also it's almost impossible to find a reasonable 25V toroidal transformer.......

I ended up with 3U Jaycar rack case, it doesn't look all that good, but it needed to be fairly big for the 6 channels.....

Hi BlackDog

Are you saying Jaycar toroids aren't very good? eep! :bawling:

I used a Jaycar 3U for an SC480. I hate the bloody thing! It's ugly and the 'ears' are permanent. Also, where I scraped away the enamel on some panels for earthing it's bloody rusted - mind you I'm only 400m from the beach but hell!

😀

Lazyfly,

The Jaycar toroids are acceptable, the only problem being that there's only one choice for Gainclone use - the 18V version. The nextt voltage up is 40V which is way too high for these chipamps. The optimum xformer voltage for this setup is generally considered to be 22V... which you can get from somewhere like RS Components, but at TWICE the price!

I don't like my rack case very much either, and think I will put a wooden panel on the front to pretty it up a bit.

I mailed out most of the remaining US orders today, and will work on more tonight. Those that went out should have received a delivery confirmation e-mail.

I will post again once I get the remaining ones shipped out.

I am sorry for the longer than usual delays on the orders, as I have been very busy with my job, and also with moving into my new house. New orders should ship out in a week.

I am still behind on e-mails (have been getting 10-20 mails a day a day, and I am trying to get them all answered asap. If you have e-mailed me over a week ago, and haven't received a response, I am sorry. Please send me another mail.
