Group order of non-inverted LM3875 pc boards? Anyone interested?

For 5 channels, use 2 of the 300va transformers and one of the 160va transformers for the power supply, as you design your chassis, so that you can stack a pair of the 300va transformers, and the 160 isn't that big. This is my recommendation, unless you want to get one big custom one made from Victoria Magnetics for all the channels, but it will probably cost the same to use seperate ones, and maybe sound better.

What about for going 7 channels.

What do you typical set the va per channel anyways?

I don't have any exact numbers, but with my 320va 2x24 transformer, it is running perfectly, not getting warm, (sign that it is not under powered, and the voltage stays pretty constant). I am running 2 channels off of it, so I can safely assume that 160va is enough for one channel, and it might be fine with less.

I am planning on using a 600va transformer with 4 pairs of secondaries to do a 4 channel, setup for bi-amping speakers, with seperate power supplies for the left and right (2 channels each). I will use this setup later on along with an active crossover for my 2-way speakers.

I would definitely look at Avel-Lindburg.

When i checked, orders of 10 or more 160VA 22-0-22 transformers were 29 dollars each, quite a bit cheaper than plitron, who does have VERY long lead times.

yes, but at $29 each that's $58 for the two (you'll need two of these for a stereo amp)
a 300VA plitron is $58 for single, $54.80 for 10-24

If I remember correctly, thats juat a few dollars less than the 500 VA transformers cost over at Avel-Lindberg.

I am not affiliated with them, it just seems that people always want to order from plitron since they have their prices on the web, but truth is, it takes FOREVER, and their prices are high.

I called up John at Victoria Magnetics, and here are the prices that I was quoted:

320va 2x24vac transformer (what I am using now): $65
600va 4x24vac transformer (what I am using next): $94

Adding the extra secondaries increased the cost a lot with him, as it takes quite a lot longer to do 4 secondaries.

I am going through Victoria Magnetics, even though it costs more, as they are local here and I can just go pick it up.

i ordered from plitron because time didn't matter, and i didnt' want to pay any higher shipping/customs fees (from canada to canada .. ahh the goodness!)

Just officially joined the forum. I have been visiting for a little while and could not resist this group buy. This will be my first diy amplifier project so you may hear from me again. I have been following this thread and taking notes so as to minimize redundant questions.

I placed my order on Sunday night for 1 TF Kit. Thanks for putting all this together Brian.

Can't wait!

Just ordered 8 kits 🙂

I'm planning to bi-amp the speakers in my HT setup, as my surround amplifier keeps overheating and shutting down. I'm pretty sure that replacing those 6 anemic built-in chip amps with 16 well fed external ones will cure this 😀

Thanks Brian for setting this up!
