Few years ago I've build both versions of amp ESP P101 – without any problem, just followed Rod's guide. Both are working great! I even haven't a twisted pair from amp to speaker output, just normal speaker wire.
Have to say, I'm not an expert, however, I'm a diyaudio dummy... So, have I right to say something? ;-)
To my opinion the main problem is the pot, built in amp case. Exactly why, I don't know. Mine is in preamp case, also Rod's project P88.

Of course you have! To my understanding it's not required to be an engineer to be part of this forum, so people with a degree have to take care not be a wiseacre. Humbleness, patience, and of course knowleadge is the key to share.

I wanted the pot in the same case as the amp because my goal was to have an integrated amp, so having an external vol. control wouldn't make much sense. I also don't think the pot and the associated wiring is causing any buzzing right now, since shorting the P101's inputs doesn't fix the buzz.
At the moment, I'm thinking it's either leftover ripple from the PSU (not a problem you're ever going to have, from the looks of those capacitor banks 😀) or inductive noise from the transformer (which is also buzzing by itself - I'm not buying Antek anymore) picked up due to my suboptimal component placement and wiring. PSU ripple makes more sense to me because what I'm hearing is definitely a buzzing and not just 50Hz hum, which I think the transformer would be causing.
Either way, it's quiet enough to not be noticed without holding your ear to the speakers (even with my "new", more efficient speakers - a pair of Pioneer Prologue S-330) so I figured I'd give it a rest and focus on other projects as I think I've really tried everything there is to try on this amp short of a total rebuild, and that tiny bit of buzz isn't worth that kind of effort to me.
