Currently, I have a 936 Hakko, bought after having read nice comments and I am somewhat disappointed.
Formerly, I had a very old Pace and I felt it very comfortable in my hand and in delevering heat.
What aren't you happy about with the 936 Forr? I've had mine for a good many years now, and have been very happy with it. Wished I'd bought one many years earlier (I probably spent as much in replacing dead cheap irons as the hakko ended up costing). I'd only ever used cheap soldering irons before it though so have nothing in the soldering station category to compare it to.
Tony.
bought it directly from Ersa Shop Germany
it is delivered with 1.6mm tip
I also bought 2.4 and 3.5mm tips
they said 5 working days
maybe at the end of next week
you will get a report 🙂

My Gran used a gas iron. Her tip was not to leave it in one place when filling the kettle. Leads to burnt collar..............well, my loved gas iron is trash now ... with a handfull of new tips now useless 😱
So how is it? Any good? I can't bear the suspense!
Lars must have soldered the neighborhood by now.😀 Look at that small i-tool handle in contrast to the compact station brick though. A feather pen.🙂
the poor little fellow looked stressed from the long journey
I decided to give a days rest
but yeah, that iron sure is small, very small
power station feels quite solid, and heavy

Partsconnexion has a "Hakko-style" 936 Solder Station (copy) for $60

Better than the real FX-888D? Worth it?

FX-888D is superior and only $91. They probably dropped the 936 replica price to stock the 888D next.

What tip diameter, temperature, solder wire type, additional flux, are used for that workpiece photo? Is the thermal recovery good when jumping from place to place on a ground plane like that rather quick?
1.2mm Multicore tin/lead solder with silver (non corrosive flux)
tip is 1.6mm, delivered as standard
bought two bigger tips
I will try them tomorrow
also have some lead free to try

1.6mm can work satisfactorily in surprisingly more locations than thought when powered by a good station. But 3.5mm-5mm come to their own on thick wires. Don't be afraid of 390C setting when the going gets tough especially when the solder wire is lead-free.
