I bought one of these years ago with no application in mind, ie to just look at. I hope that doesn't make me a bad person. To make it happy requires at least 2000V on the plate and a heater current of 9 amps at 12V.

Yes, this 1 kW 300 pounds boatanchor really is a monster! And Charles Marie Widor's Toccata from his 5th organ symphony is overly appropriate to show it's capabilities. Now imagine you're listening to it through a speaker system capable of 1000 watts!

(In his comments the original uploader states he used a dummy load and some smaller speaker that was connected via a voltage divider.)
