interesting to see how many times they use small signal pentode in pentode mode mixed with triode and not in pseudo triode like nowadays. perhaps tone was more appreciated than bandwidth 🙂

May I ask what the 866A in this schematic does? Rectifying DC?

It is a delay to prevent the peak DC from flowing from the capacitors loaded with the peak voltage of the doubler which is 2.82x400volt and overstress the circuit valves on the output tube.

The 866 warms up slowly and by the time it starts conducting the other tubes had time to heat up a bit before getting the full B+
