This one really needs to be translated. A blind test of 11 resistors. MJ^9004_(05)fixed-resistor-blind-test_KadoT.pdf - Google Drive
This one really needs to be translated.
Most of the resistors there are as rare as the proverbial hen's teeth, so not much practical use. Interestingly, the Shinkoh did not even make the top 5. As for the winning Tokyo Light Sound, i only knew they made attenuators.
Soundhappy once posted a link to a Susumu RE55 datasheet and that is all i have ever seen.
Machine translation of the comparison table likely produced some garbage but still gives an idea of what the resistors were. The ranking is easy to find in the table. Larger numbers equate to better sound.
Taiyome FTR-33S
Micro SM
Micro-AM (Riken-RM, etc.)
Tokyo Light Sound RD
Allen Bradley
Shinko TAF
Philips MR-25F
Susumu RE55
Alpha MA
Vishay VSR
Stack NHR (Reference )
I can't make heads or tails from the table after google has translated. How were the votes spread out? I'm curious if there was a clear winner.
My only concern with a “reference” and everything else is better makes me question the test. It’s like it’s saying anything is better than what we had, when I may be different.
My only concern with a “reference” and everything else is better makes me question the test.
Easy to achieve if the reference is a Chinese generic metal film with magnetic leads. This is after all just another subjective ranking amongst many; certainly interesting but of little practical value.
I doubt you can hear resistors by maker , maybe by technology , lets say carbon vs wirewound but even this depends on the circuit and values 😀
Until someone translates the Japanese text for me into a language I do understand, I dare to say the »reference« is a handwound resistor made by maiden virgins in a cloudless full moon night shortly after midnight, using their own golden hair.My only concern with a “reference” and everything else is better makes me question the test. It’s like it’s saying anything is better than what we had, when I may be different.
Best regards!
