Gluing components to chassis

I made my own clamp out of some plastic ( odd stuff, smells fishy when drilled/cut ), but that was mainly because of the external mounting. There is a slot between the two caps, that is closed by a bolt to clamp them. There was a thread on diyaudio about gluing caps, and someone said that hot melt glue absorbs water and it separates the glue from non porous surfaces.

The internet is filled with "someone said's".
The trouble is that those someone's are likely in another part of the world, along with being in another dimension of reality.

Hot glues don't seem like something that can absorb water, but apparently epoxies can absorb enough to cause swelling and other effects (google turns up numerous references). Hence the need for conformal coatings on PC boards and stuff. And why boat builders use special resins.
