Gedlee Summa vs Lambda Unity Horn

I have listened to the original Summa, Abbey (in its various iterations), Nathan and Harper (I own 4 of them) and find that the NA12 supersedes the original Summa in performance which makes sense objectively as well.

Hi Anand

Yes, of course this is going to be the case. The Summa was developed over a few decade to its final form the NS-15. One would certainly hope that all this development would improve things! It is also likely that as time goes on the "improvements" should get less and less until the point is reached where the NA-12 and the NS-15 measure very similar to each other - they have identical waveguides and drivers so they should be close. But the higher DI of the 15" allows for a higher DI across the board for the NS-15. This is an advantage, but certainly not a huge one.

I would have no objection to offering up the "plans" for my speakers now out of production. But that is just the beginning of the problems because I had 1000's of $ of tooling to make my speakers. As a one-off these costs would be prohibitive and as such the actual drawings would be of limited use without someone investing in the tooling.

Hi Earl!

I hope someone takes you up on your offer!

I continue to enjoy the NA12’s greatly. I have used them even with small 5 watt - 25 watt Class A amps (Pass, etc...), and yes, it does make sound to decent levels. I find that the NA12 is quite amenable to nearly any amplifier although it shines with designs with vanishingly low distortion levels like the latest Class AB designs by Tom Christiansen/Neurochrome, and Class D designs by Leo Ayzenshtat (Orchard Audio), and Bruno Putzey (NCore, Mola Mola, etc...). Moderate damping factors continue to be important but not necessarily absolutes. The design however clearly reveals the sonic advantages of low THD/low IMD amplifier designs. Imaging and staging continue to be 1st rate.

Best,
Anand.

Generous offer! You might be surprised at how innovative people can get adapting their capabilities to their goals. Think prison break engineering but with speakers.
