A Flamenco-jazz Fantasy

John Coltrane
Soprano saxophone, flute, trumpet and piano sing the sympatric-feeling flamenco by turn. As if to compete, their tones raise high into the gloomy air until the playing time indicates 10:30. Then, one bass of two joins the competition. Starts its song, from the deep heart, pressing down and bowing the strings. Wow... how come that low voice so well expresses the soul of flamenco... amazing...
Conclusion
MSS and GCSS have quite similar 3rd harmonics sound, IMHO. Meanwhile, GCSS gives me a bit tightened and polished sound in all musical frequency areas. Comparably, MSS gives me a bit relaxed sound. It is difficult to say which one is better. I think the gap could be only as narrow as subjective taste.
Both MSS and GCSS have a good value sonically. In high-end audio shop, there are many good or better amps. I know few of them attract me for my investment. Yet, I hesitate to do it...

One little question about the ZTX450 diff pair. Since this location appear to be the most responsible in Dc offset on aleph X through a bad matching, need the ZXT450 in the diff pair to be match (in hfe?). I don't remember read anythink about it in this tread. I planed to built un //gc amp with Lm3886 and would better try this GCSS version. All purpose for the // version are instock. I have in stock to 2 toriods : 336Va 1x24V tha t i planed to use trough snuberised PSU. That will give me a little more than 30V in charge i think.
Best regards. Marc

Suggest you use LM394 or MAT02 or SSM2210 for the diff pair. This would solve your matching problem automatically.

Ok thanks i look fore and can find easyly SSM2210.

Do I need some changes in metalman circuit to replace the couple of ZTX450 or could the ssm2210 take place direct in?

Because of the DC blocking capacitors between the ZTX450's and the op-amp inputs, any difference in matching between the ZTX450's is negated as far as DC offset at the outputs.
As far as substitutions for the ZTX450, any generic bipolar transistor should work.

Thats good news, i can purchase ZTX450 not far from here. No objection to the use of toaroids 336Va 1x24V?

Hi Marc
My GCSS works with the rail voltages of +/-15V backed up by 400VA-class transformer of 2 x 12V secondary. If your rail potential differences are minimum +/-15V or higher than this, GCSS would work happily. Meanwhile, if the rail voltage is lower than +/-30V, I preferably recommend to adjust R15 (refer to Terry¡¯s circuit), i.e. approximately R15 = (+V rail - 13) x 60. Hope this info will help.

In reality i have two options for Power supply.
- First : using two 336Va 1x24V toroid that could potential bring me up to 34V on rail. So i would say betwen 30 and 32V on rail.
- Two : i've planed to build an aleph X but this project is on serious on standby. But I have the 2 toroids : 330Va 2x15V. I could Hop 17-18v on rail with these.
The XGS should drive speakers based on mid woofer scanspeak 15w4531G00 and tweeter Vifa XT25. The speaker should have 87db sensibility et 5Ohms impedance. So I need about 100-150W to 4Ohm to drive seriously this speaker. This could be obtain with 2 LM3886 in // but the XGS seen to me more plaisant?
In case i use the 330Va 2x15V : R15=(17-13)x60=240R
I redraw Terry schematic :
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

What is pin 8? I'm wondering why such a large (10k) resistor with capacitor on that pin, but nothing on pin 4.
Does any one have an schematic how to pass from "normal" input to diferencial input ? I don't know how to do it

I'm not certain I understand the question. Ordinarily these
circuits start out life a differential inputs, with a (+), a (-) and a
ground. To use them single ended, we ground the (-) input
and drive the (+) input with the signal.
😎
*Sorry but I wrote differential in Portuguese ( Diferencial )
If I could understand the SUSY schematic, I only have full advantage of the circuit if I use differential input. It's correct ?
That's why I asked how to convert a "normal" input to differential input. 😉
Thanks.

Not quite. It depends on the topology of the front end circuit.
The one listed in the patent is not that great at single-ended
input (although some people like it that way), but later iterations
of the design have shown greater equality between balanced
and SE inputs - except for the ability to reject noise, which is
the balanced input's forte.
Noise aside, currently we favor balanced use as slightly better,
unless you have to add external circuits (active, or perhaps a
transformer) to achieve it. Since some people (go see other
forums) seem to view transformers as a virtue per se, I won't
get into that - after all, they presumably know what they like
when they hear it.

Now the name Jeff..... came into my mind😀 😀 LOL
Do you advise an active circuit or just use SE ?
I could try both but I don't have the schematic for that

I don't know. Looks like JR dropped discrete to go with
chip amps and now is favoring B&O Icepower.
/pass/: building a house next to the composer of "Dallas"
theme, not too far from Linkwitz, and doesn't care who shot JR.

Hi Nelson,
Do you think that by adding DRV134 to the frontend will be beneficial instead of SE input, since DRV134 itself is also a noise source but in the mean time it lets the Susy to function properly?
Thanks,
Ipanema
