Maybe I spelled it wrong - could be Colins. His design was published in Audio Express a few years ago. He use a round PCB and put his personal unit in a black round enclosure.
Does that help identify it? I'll check the name spelling at home this evening.
Thanks

If its Dennis Colin it should be a competent design. He was on AE indeed. Still I don't know the kit itself so if you will find some more info, do link it.
cheers 🙂
Any plans how many sites the list will´ve? - End jan. / early febr. 2014!? :-D
Done. All set.
Can you put me on the wait list as well please?
Is there a complete Kit available or do you spec a BOM on digikey or something like that?

Yes, done
I offer some minikit material as discussed in post #1.
Additionally, I am going to offer an optional PRP 9372 25PMM .1% 47K and 6.754K .1% resistors for the RIAA signal path.
I am going to offer 2SK369BL's again. For the 2SK170BL, we will see. There are others out there who can provide them as well. Not sure I want/need to compete.
peranders posted links to the AE article in post #50 of this old thread, but clicking on them produces no results: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/anal...d-state-phono-preamp-design-philosophy-5.html The AE site lists articles going back through 2008, but the Colin article was in 2007.Still I don't know the kit itself so if you will find some more info, do link it.

Can't see it anymore also but in general a Colin architecture is compatible with the previous version of the Simplistic regarding rail fed input stage, not sure but maybe he also uses an opamp second stage & overall NFB in his design. I can't remember exactly. So it should be a competent design in need of a very quiet rail and different to folded simplistic in two key areas. 1st stage PSRR and no NFB fully discrete. Riaa filter could be active in Colin case too. Maybe you should make both and decide which one you will like best.
I read a thread on here from a guy who supposedly improved Colin's design, saying it was very prone to picking up noise. Rather than build two, I'd like the best design and build it. Vinyl will be a small part of my listening, but I do have my vinyl from the 60's and 70's and a couple new ones and I scored a Wilson Benesche TT and AT MC cart on eBay, so they deserve a very good phono preamp. I"m not an engineer, but am a solder slinger from way back and looking for advice here. Thanks for your replies!
Have a look in the last pages of the main Simplistic phono thread, some builds crop up these days. They don't report hum problems at least. Follow there a bit, they mention systems, carts, impressions etc. I am not aware of the subjectives or possible difficulties with a Colin so to could really give you a clue on how the two phonos may compare. Its your intuition to decide. Or someone maybe knows that kit and replies something concrete here.
Thanks and hopefully someone familiar with the Colin design will reply here, and meanwhile, I'll check back through this Simplistic thread, as you recommend.

I know it's probably in the build thread somewhere, but is 6K754 the ideal value for R5 (R5 || R6)? I know it is 6K8 || 1M, but (since you are specing an odd-ball value anyway) is it the ideal value for that spot?
I hope I'm on the list for four (4) PCB's?
Sometime ago I asked to be placed on the waiting list for four (4) PCB's and possibly
other items for a group buy. Can you check your records and let me know?😕
Take care.

Hey Teabag, I received my package today. Lovely circuit board, minikit as advertised, and additional semis, all present and accounted for. Thanks so much for all your work and patience. Now I have to order the remaining parts and get started!

I can put you on the next waiting list.
I looked at spreadsheet from first GB, your not there, but it's possible to have gotten mistakenly deleted since it's open edit.
So during close of next GB, keep eye on thread and make sure your all accounted for and gotten an invoice.

Hi TB. Could you please put me up on 1 PCB as a starter on the next round. I'll choose options later when you have decided what to offer 🙂

I ordered these, they are about 4 weeks out. They will be 8.00 a set of four. No splits. I ordered enough if people from first GB want them, I will have extra.
