OK then. I already know that It accousticly pointless, but in the spirit of "maktshow". Would it be grossly harmful to spray paint the centre dome of my 15" drivers?
How much harm could it do. i see this done on comertial drivers.

I wouldn't advise it if you are interested in sound quality.
You see, at the very least you will have added mass, which will change the acceleration of the voice coil. Slow it down enough and the whole thing will just produce mud.
Also, different kinds of paint have different solvents as a base. Even the vapours can produce problems in the adhesives and polymers used in the construction of your drivers.
Finally, if the dust cap is a fabric, some of the paint may make its way into the interior and really screw things up.

My opinion is that if you misted a couple of coats onto a paper cap (cloth would be a problem as mentioned) it wouldn't change things very much. Maybe a bit lower end response, maybe a teeeny bit less efficient. I'll bet you don't notice any change at all. Best to have the first coat white so you don't need a lot of layers.
paint on a paper dust cap shouldn't seriously change things... on a cloth dustcap, you will seal the cap (the cloth usually can breath) which will affect stuff... and if you are going o do a cloth one use a paint brush.

Don't do it unless its a cheap tweeter. The reason why the OW1 and Scanspeak sound so good is because of the coating on the dome. If you change the makeup of that, you change the sound. If its a $20 to $30 tweeter it might be worth a shot for aesthetic reasons.
He never says it's NOT a tweeter... mayhap it's one of those new large tweeters I hear so much about. 😀 I hear they're all the rage with the kids in the cars now... Big bass is out, big treble is in! </sarcasm>
Well this is a 300W PA speaker. We're not talking HiFi. Auto speakers have this a lot. Also PA stuff by KAM. I'll just be stencilling a logo.
