This was 8 years back, she got me a tiny bottle of syrup from there to taste...
Maybe it was a jug or something you could pour out of, like a kettle.
I don't know about Canada but in the US, I've had pancakes from many different places and it's common to see the syrup served in a small bowl or mini pitcher. That sounds like utter BS. Syrup would never be served in a bowl, especially Maple, which isn't cheap. And the pancake serving size is ridiculous. Obviously, someone made up a story.
As for the portions, some places brag (advertise) about how much you can get for the money. If you think about it, compared to bacon, eggs and sausages, pancake batter doesn't cost that much to double or triple the serving size. But it sure looks impressive thus the potential publicity.
My brother in law is 5'11", 175 lb., so I don't think they were silver dollar size pancakes.
Another friend did his Master's in Texas, and he told me that there were restaurants that had lunch deals, you paid a small amount (less than $5, late 80s), and could eat as much as you wanted, Chinese, American, whatever.
The signs were along the lines of "All you can eat for $3.50", or similar.
He is also vegetarian...he did learn to cook a little, and among the first things he did after getting a good job was to get married.
Food problem solved.

There are many eateries like that in the US. Obviously the quality isn't good."All you can eat
From technical point of view, a person with flat abs can put more food in the stomach than the person with more adipose tissue around the waist. Why? Because there is more room left to expand. My brother in law is 5'11", 175 lb., so I don't think they were silver dollar size pancakes.

Four silver dollar sized pancakes would not have made him full...
But those deals do give the impression of excess food intake.
Another thing, in NY there were homeless people in the streets, hotel air conduits reeking of pot, and some food service places (Subway?), were trashing freshly made cookies.
My sister said: "Why don't you give this to homeless people?"
The reply was: "If I do, I have to pay for it from my pocket..."
So freshly made cookies were trashed every day, along with other unsold stock.
That is another aspect, it always irritates me if people trash food, the most common being at parties, people load the plates with too much food, more than they can eat.

It's nothing new. In ancient Rome, "Gorging for hours on end also called for what we would consider untoward social behavior in order to accommodate such gluttonous indulgences. Apparently, it's in human nature.
Yes, I understand they had slaves carrying peacock feathers moving around to help induce vomiting. It's nothing new. At least we are not alone in surging energy prices.
- Germany facing high risk of recession
- Spanish inflation near 10%, German price growth tops 7%
- Energy supply crunch risk raised as Russia sanctions bite
- Euro zone consumer sentiment plunges
- ECB's policy dilemma deepens
They generate solar power without PVs in many places, too. This one is 100MW...

That depends on who you ask. https://deadline.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/x-men_billboard_h_2016.jpg or https://www.quotemaster.org/images/f5/f5a9ef0f5bf9456c054f6ed5b155ecaf.jpgEither we become smarter or we die...isn't it the very definition of human evolution?
Wind farms kill birds with blunt trauma by the wind turbine blades. Solar farms kill birds by high heat. They generate solar power without PVs in many places, too. This one is 100MW...
The mega-sized wind turbines ran into an unanticipated problem. Those cool futuristically shaped wings couldn't stand the velocity speeds at the wingtips...those trick carbon-fiber composites wore away at the tips because of the velocity & the duty cycle.

Enough of these terrible fakes that imply engineers were too dumb not to have invented it early.Either we become smarter or we die...isn't it the very definition of human evolution?
The Soviets ran out of money because they had to spend half their money on military. Too bad the sides of that were so divided. History repeating... I'll stop now as this is opinion but on a forbidden subject,.
Here some college kids did a project, vertical wind turbines, small ones, along highways.
The idea was to use the slipstream of passing vehicles to generate power.
Also from trains, by putting them along rail tracks.
That was some years back.
No idea what became of it.

The Soviets did run out of money because the whole economy used a doctrine that goods should be cheap and in most cases costs of goods were higher than their price. This eventually led to the buildup of foreign debt of the states that were forcefully made part of the block and this bubble burst. Workforce productivity was also mediocre compared to other countries and this still plagues some remains of the block. Just an example - Germany was producing cars to supply half of the world when my father had to wait 14 years for a Lada and Lada`s often didn`t work straight from the shop. The Soviets ran out of money because they had to spend half their money on military. I wonder what triggered you telling this...the guy runs a youtube channel and a web page for years showing the simplest and cheapest ways to get some heat at home. The efficiency is 3 times lower than a professional instalation yet the costs are 3 times lower too and they are less prone to damage from hail while the repairs are much easier and cheaper done in these diy improvised instalations he explains snd he shows a lot of them .Enough of these terrible fakes that imply engineers were too dumb not to have invented it early.

Gas prices are up.... everything is up.
Here in SoCal, the utilities give us monthly "rations" of water/power etc (so far NG is not rationed). The cost is graduated so if you use more than your baseline (first 1/4) the cost goes up, then the next 3/4 up to your ration, cost up... after that it becomes crazy....
My montly power allotment is 1200 KwH for winter and about 1500 KwH for summer. My cost for the first 1/4 is 18 cents per KwH, after that it becomes 28 cents per KwH... after that... it's around 40 cents or something crazy like that.
Now then, one of our cars is a Honda Clarity Plug In Electric. It has a 17.5 Kw battery... good for about 45 miles and Car Pool solo access stickers. It's also fairly efficient running on the ICE - it is a big four door sedan.
The utility does not care about our having a PHEV car when they set our monthly allowance. They want us to change to Time Of Day metering, but that means that our usage from 4PM to 9PM is very costly... exactly when we use the AC, lights, etc the most. So, it doesn't make sense for us.
End result? Well, my house is already quite efficient. We use about 740 KwH per month. Our AC is old, so we may have to redo it this year, but living near the Coast we don't use it much, mostly only in August and September. Recently we've been going to the office once a week or so, plus driving around town to the point where we charge the car three times a week... that's about 200 or so KwH. Our latest bill shows an usage of 920 KwH for the month. That runs about $310. This likely includes about 30 hours of running the A5s. I also got a tube preamp, but those are small tubes, so I guess that can't be more than 100 watts.
But now, I'm having my A2s built... as it is, I don't run the A5 monos in a hot summer day because they put out 600 watts into the room.
So, it may come down to rotating the use of the AC, the A2s and the car charging! I mean, I can always run the PHEV off gasoline only BUT it's already 6 bucks a gallon down the street -for regular unleaded- and that's "Cheap"!
Let's just hope that the Commissars in Sacramentograd who run our 'energy policies' don't find out about Class A and tube amps and make them illegal and confiscate them. They are, after all, Power Grid Assault Devices... 😛

What often surprises me is that here you have a country with an economy sized somewhere between the Netherlands and Italy, and it has a full blown nuclear program, and a space program only second to the US. There must be very little left for a reasonable standard of living of its people. The Soviets ran out of money because they had to spend half their money on military. PS We had a standard joke on those car delivery times. Guy buys a car and asks for delivery. Answer: Wednesday 16 of March, 2033.
OK he says, will that be AM or PM. What do you care, it's in 14 years??
Yeah I know but the plumber is coming in the morning that day. ;-)
