So what's really better

I haven't been able to find a definitive answer.
Some of the literature with the newer amps I've gotten claim their kind of transistors are among the best available, yet I still get more enjoyment out of some older amps, like the Hca 1000 parasound, a rotel rb960, and a Sumo Ulysses.
So is it just the power supplies in the oldies that make a nicer sound?
Or are the newer models I've auditioned more accurate, and I just can't handle the truth?
I mean, I even prefer the music through my ancient JVC VR 5551 receiver than some new expensive stuff, since crossing my fingers, and recapping just about everything inside.
Much harder and tedious than I anticipated, if I get the other one done, I'll pay a professional to do it.

Rellik, criticism can get pretty rough around here. I unfortunately am having trouble following some of your comments...

All else aside, I can certainly understand how my comment could've been taken as a criticism of the poster - and if that was indeed the case then I apologize. But there's something in those posts that leads me to believe that something is quite literally being lost in translation, and that was the actual subject of my dig.

Years ago when online translation was relatively new to the "interwebs", I attempted to use one of those services for a post on a German-speaking forum. I figured, "Hey, with that and my two years' worth of high school German, what could possibly go wrong?"

Let's just say the service I used hadn't quite considered the difference between hören and huren!

And the moral of the story? Desenex doesn't cure athlete's mouth!

Hey guy, I just posted photos in the tube audio section. Please feel free to flame it, destroy it, etc. As you know its just made of replacable parts.

BTW, this has gotten so idiotic since you guys can just buy flux rather than intruding my house and smoking my cardas solder, in a pipe mind you. Obviously this is the reason, you are too afraid of approaching a cardas solder vendor, mind your street cred. Noone gives a turd.

Id love to see you try to troll my forum, but obviously there is a reason you cannot post or see many of your own posts here and elsewhere. Simply put, get out or someone will, mind you, will, replace you.

I was not going to draw attention to it, as I have a rule that I don't draw inferences in one thread from statements made in another. However, as you have asked us to look some people may wish to go and look and, perhaps, comment. They may draw conclusions which are consistent with conclusions already drawn from this thread.

... I found another that's worth watching for the whole 80 minutes: 🙂

Floyd Toole - Sound reproduction – art and science/opinions and facts
Thank you very much for that link. It took me a few days to find 80 free minutes, but you're right - this video is worth watching for the whole 80 minute!

I got back into music six or seven years ago, circa late 2009. I was quite shocked to find out that even semi-professional loudspeaker systems (near-field monitors for mixing), were now, for the most part, sold with virtually no useful technical specs. Not even an on-axis, anechoic frequency response measurement.

If I imagine that I am a psychopath and therefore have no ethics, I can understand why Shure isn't eager to prominently feature the frequency response curves for their truly awful (and incredibly successful) SM58 microphone. Why mess with success, and point out that the successful product is completely unworthy?

But it horrifies me that the majority of semi-pro audio equipment (including monitor speakers and microphones) is now sold with virtually zero technical information. People are being sold this stuff based almost entirely on their relative profit margins, and perhaps on personal prejudices of the salesperson.

IIRC the Dr Dre product sheets do not include any useful specs.
