You are pretty big on on subtle (and not so subtle) self promotion and denigration of those around you, eh Stuart.
We all understand that you are highly intellectually intelligent, able to cite references in an i7nstant, and well experienced in a range of pursuits.
That said, myself and others find (it has been well discussed offline) that you are very highly lacking in empathy and respect for others (some persons in particular), to the point of bullying, contempt, and plain outright abrasiveness as is evident in the above quote.
I and others don't need to dig too deep to find copious further examples.
I for one, and I am certain that many other members would appreciate that you learn to refrain from denigrating and 'bitchy' input, and elect instead to give only your practical experience and knowledge without the irrelevant emotive input as is too commonly your method, in order to reduce the negative tone that brings down this otherwise generally very positive forum meeting place of many great minds, yours included.
Sincerely, Dan.

Pfff, Sy just tells it like it is. I appreciate his plain bluntness. It is always on the mark and always what is called for. Most can't handle the cold hard truth. I personally think it is necessary to call a spade a spade.
Keep it up Sy. Don't let the haters stop you, actually, I know you wont.
I once found golf balls rather sophisticated.
They still are. There's a fanatical attention to detail, and an amazing variety of technologies, material, process, and design. I find that aspect very interesting, so I enjoy working on their projects. Ironically, I have something less than zero interest in golf itself. That's a pity- an avid golfer would kill to get in there and see what's going on.
It is true that SY is a big smarty-pants, but bullying and self promotion are
not among his qualities.

John, I suspect the nearest Bybee's would get to CNT's would be if they were wrapped in carbon fibre...
What about sociopath? Or Aspergers? C'mon, Nelson, give me something here!
Unless you are a CEO, member of the clergy or police statistically you are already less likely to be a sociopath as those 3 professions attract the highest number of them.
I once saw what looked like a string of nanotubes. Even my 1000 power microscope could reveal very little information. I gave up trying at that point. Still, in future, if info can be measured, I will do it.

Perhaps a little knowledge of basic undergrad optics might have saved you the trouble.
No, just too little power. I, at least, made an attempt to see something. There was no initial promise that I would. By the way, I took a course in undergrad optics about 50 years ago, just like you did, once.
The difference is that I actually remember some of it. To be fair, much of my research involves nanotechnology, so I'm forced to use those basics on a daily basis.
Think through the basics and see if you can figure out the fundamental issue here.

Because when people give you the answers, you tend to forget them and repeat the same mistakes. When you figure things out for yourself, you have a better chance of learning something and having it stick.
Why don't you give it a try and I'll try to help you along.

No thanks SY, I don't want to play, 20 questions. I know what I had, what I saw, and the limitations of my optical equipment. Of course, I saw 'something' just not a lot of detail.
Well, if you want to understand advanced concepts, you first have to grasp elementary ones. If you feel that it's too difficult for you to try to understand the basics, or that your motivation is something other than actual understanding and progress, that's your choice.
Well of course, SY, but I was looking at an ASSEMBLY of CNT's that could possibly have both a defined input and output.
You still have to see that there's a CNT in there. So... my question again, what's the diameter of a CNT?
The paper you keep waving around deals with a single CNT.
