Indeed. And the irony and hypocrisy of the situation is that it's the internet and social media that has allowed for the widespread dissemination of all these crazy and dangerous ideas. What could have been a huge boon for society has in fact caused society to spiral down into a state of ignorance and extremism.

Look at how united Americans were 20 years ago, and how divided we are now. It's very distressing.

I'm not all that pessimistic. Before the internet people were just as ignorant. They just didn't get the chance to tell the whole world and you didn't get a chance to hear it.

I actively avoid 'the socials' because I really don't want to know what my neighbour's favourite political pet peeve is or what my acquaintances think about geopolitics. Otherwise it just drags me down with no benefit whatsoever - except higher 'engagement' (enragement?) levels for the social media platforms.

Supposing you have a virtual box, 2 foot cube, inside the box there are hundreds of spheres moving in random directions and at different speeds, some going towards the centre of the box, some going from one side to anouther, some going away from the centre of the box. None are at the same point. now after a few hours, some spheres will have left the box, some still inside. A few hours later almost all will have left the box, the fastest moving would most likely be furthest away, the slowest closest to the box, some might have used gravity to slingshot around other spheres to change direction. You'd end up with how the Universe is now, lots of galaxies, generally moving away, the fastest the farthest away, but none originated from the same point of the result of an explosion - but if you hadn't seen the beginning, you would assume that the movement was caused by a - big bang.

The difference is the influence and organization of extremist factions. What I consider extremism (theocracy and the agenda to remove science from society) is in fact a significant minority in my country. It is not fringe and it is not to be ignored.

It is my contention that we couldn't have gotten this stupid, this fast, without the Internet.

I don't think you know what the BB is. Pro tip: It's still happening.

In the real world, the young universe was very high entropy. Gravity is the weak force that overcame initial entropy and caused the formation of stars and galaxies via accretion. Conservation of angular momentum dictates the movement of the planets. All of this can be observed real time, through a telescope.

This is very, very basic. I'm sure a community college offers a Physics and Astronomy 101 course that covers this topic. Maybe you should take it and actually understand what you're arguing against.

I think it is more easily found out too...
Works both ways.

Anyway, my fellow classmates from college always told me that the American system of high school 'graduation' was inadequate, with few people going to college for a higher level of education.

So you are dealing with poorly educated people who are intoxicated / incoherent, and armed.
What do you expect?
I expect chaos, increasing over time.
And UK is ......over. Economically finished.

Saw a news tweet, it says UK and Aussie are considering insects to be made available as a food source, as an alternate to meat, due to high food prices.
It could be a joke.

I am reminded of the song title 'How Silly Can You Get' from the 1984 film 'Top Secret', it was a send up comedy about ...whatever.

Mods, your call. A bit political.
