Funniest snake oil theories

I think the question is: Who gets to decide whether these words are offensive or not? Apparently some believe that it's they who get to decide this, and not the people the words are directed at. That doesn't make sense to me.

For just one example: When I discovered at some point that the word "Jap" was offensive to the Japanese, I stopped using it. Not because I am of Japanese descent (I'm not), but because they are. (Pharos above looks to have reached a similar conclusion.)

And yes, I understand this can lead to a feeling of being led by the nose as various derogatories come & go. Sometimes it feels like I need flash cards to keep up. But who cares? It's not really that difficult, unless I'm just being stubborn.

Anyway - I think H713's post above is an excellent summary of all this.

So: Back to my favorite snake-oil, which of course is listening to music at night in a dark room. Makes everything sound better. 🙂

Entropic Processing

Wow, this thread went off track...
Back on track? Let me try: Cryo stuff? Nano technology? Directional speaker cables? Forget it! 😴

Entropic processing for cables - this is it!

Having studies physics wayyyy back in the past, I still have a pretty good idea about what entropy is. Really tried to align my theoretical knowledge about thermodynamics with those lenghty, yet somewhat blurry statements (does that sound familiar to you?) on their website, but no chance ... :sarge:

Misrepresenting entropy is a favorite tactic of woo peddlers.

Entropy is just energy that's available to do work in a system. That's it.

😕

See here for more info on this topic:

Entropy is a scientific concept, as well as a measurable physical property that is most commonly associated with a state of disorder, randomness, or uncertainty. The term and the concept are used in diverse fields, from classical thermodynamics, where it was first recognized, to the microscopic description of nature in statistical physics, and to the principles of information theory.

Field theory (physics), a physical theory which employs fields in the physical sense, consisting of three types:
Classical field theory, the theory and dynamics of classical fields
Quantum field theory, the theory of quantum mechanical fields
Statistical field theory, the theory of critical phase transitions

Well, the more I think of it, the more I am confused.
One thing, I am sure of, they do not know what they are talking about at Bybee.
