Funniest snake oil theories

It also works the other way. I once changed one type of interconnect cable to another type (brand), certain that low output Z of source and short length of cable would take care of cable parasitics and the whole endevour was just to prove it's a waste of time.
Yet the new cable "sounded better".

But there you are comparing two different cables. The wire gauge, inductance, capacitance and shielding could all be different. That's apples and oranges. Here we're not even talking apples and apples, were talking apple and the same apple.

DPH, shut down your computer.
Go to your lounge room and try the experiment of reversing the direction of one of two identical interconnects.
If you do not have a pair of identical interconnects, beg, borrow, steal or construct a pair and try the experiment mentioned.
When you have tried all the permutations of connecting the two interconnects, go back to your computer and report what you find....capisce ?.

Dan.

Hi Dan. I'm assuming the simple act of removing and reconnecting the interconnect didn't scratch off a little oxidization, enhancing signal in one channel?

You'd think that the semiconductor folks doing all the work on metal layers would have found this directionality stuff before. I mean just look at the body of research into electromigration and its mitigation! But, alas, but humble folk can hear it. Where did we go so wrong?

* I can buy there's a directionality to cables, but it requires a certain number of pathological conditions to be first met, e.g. loose connectors, failing solder joints that maintain connection when held "just so", etc. I don't think this is what is meant, however. 🙂

But these guys have some real problems these days with the metal layers getting thin enough that the electrons start to become of significant size and don't do what you want (like go around corners). Single electron memory structures still do my head in.
