This type of remote makes only sense when using transformers. If you want to use resistors and have the convenience of remote control, Apox system is probably a better choice and comes in about the same price as the remote only.

Hard stop or continuous revolution?
I saw something in the construction manual about using only 23 of the 24 positions so it won't have a 'full-revolution' design. Does anyone know if there is a hard stop at minimum volume to keep you from going past minimum to the maximum position (going directly from position 1 to position 24/23)?

Personally I would not mind, I could probably make a mechanical stop however I think these are full rotary selectors without any dead stop...
I hope I am wrong but some year ago I saw similar rotary switches that were actually made for pc use being sold as readdy to assemble attenuators with the resistors in HK (very very cheap in store)

For info, I bought one of the EBay ones and received it in just over a week from Tawain. The build is excellent - it is certainly as good if not better than the picture. I know that given enough time and patience, I could solder one up reasonably well but I do not think I could come close to the quality of this work - it looks like it was done on a jig. I haven't tested it yet but if it sounds as good as it looks, I will be ordering more.

Hi,
The rotary switches used to build those attenuators are nominally 24 make before break pos. switches.
You give up position #24 by putting a mechanical stop there, often just a small blocking screw.
I don't think there's a way to have all 24 pos. and have a stop at the same time...
Not having a stop there would be risky as you could go from dead quiet to full blast by just one click.😀

of a mechanical soultion something that prevents the KNOB from turning, so a deadstop, a small pin or so, attache to the bottom of the knob not visible from the front...

I would just sacrify one of the lowest volume position, for the stop. I'd rather have full gain (if needed) and don't have for instance -60dB position (as I never use it anyway). But stop is definitely required.

That's a possibility but for all practical purposes I find 23 pos. more than I ever need.
At home I have attenuator usually set between ps. 9 and 11.
If you use a switch to mute the preamp then you could consider that infinite att. and pos. -24 if you like.
