I've touched bases with my good friend who makes gorgeous speakers. He has agreed to make me custom made padauk and bamboo 6 liter cabs for these drivers. I'll post pics when they arrive... It'll probably be the end of the month
Just got the speaker kit today and have been playing them for quite a few hours. I have to say I'm quite impressed. I'm using the cabinets that came in the kit for a few weeks until my custom cabs arrive but the mids and highs are stunning and when combined with a proper subwoofer, it is quite magical. This was well worth the asking price in my opinion.
And here they are at work. Sounding fanatic with a small subwoofer crossed over at 100hz to pick up where the FE103-SOL's leave off.
They look nice. They should keep getting better. My FF85wk's kept getting better beyond 100+ hours.

Thanks for the links! Those are some very interesting enclosure designs! I do plan on buying the tools to start making enclosures next year, not to mention, my new house I am moving into has a third separate garage I can build into a wood shop. This forum has inspired many different ideas to try.
My buddy is just about finished with the new cabs for these!! Hope to have them by next Friday. The drivers are breaking in very nicely, very happy with these.
pretty enough - it's hard to distinguish from the angle of the photo, but if the front baffle is a single piece of solid wood, don't be altogether surprised to experience some joint movement

A couple comments/queries:
1/ Is the vent length adjusted to deal with the flare?
2/ With solid wood baffle you could have a sonically better big round over on the edges
3/ thick hook up wire.Solid or stranded?

Yes, he plugged the speaker dims/specs into his drafting program and designed the cabinet and port length to give it the best response/range. Not sure on the cable, but I think he may be using silver stranded stuff. I'll soldier it to the terminals when I get it. I'm thinking of finding some bronze screws to match the speaker frame.
