ok thanks sorry it took a few days had to wire up my car in all the snow and then had to buy a new battery but anyways... after removing the pcb from the sink i plugged it up with the 10 amp fuse and it powers on. could it be from the previous thermal paste job? or is it the mesha board as you stated? i attached a pic of what it looked like when i pulled it from the heat sink...

While you have the amp powered up out of the heat sink, black probe on amp ground red probe on bottom side of MESHA boards where the paste is.
Do you read any DC voltage?
This will tell me if the MESHA board itself has become conductive.
If you read no DC voltage the something from the amp had to be touching the case?
You tried to power the board out of sink with the computer power supply as well?
Have you tried powering the board in the sink in the car?

just tested it and there was no voltage from the negative to the bottom side of either mesha boards. i tried the computer supply and in the car with a inline 10 amp fuse and it powers up outside of the heat sink. could the screws through the mesha board short it out? theres also two screws that look like they wore a little bit through the mesha board not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.the only other place thats visibly damaged is where the screw goes in i circled it in one of the photos. i havent tried it back in the sink yet because im waiting on thermal compound i ordered online. also does it matter what kind i use or do you recommend any because i couldnt find any locally except radio shack and it was a really small tube for $9

I use Dow Corning 340 cheaply found on ebay.
Yes the screws could be shorting the MESHA to the heat sink.
You need to determine next if it is the left or right.
Unless you have extra MESHA boards or have a good knowledge of repairing them you might consider having it done.
PM me if its something you do not want to tackle.
