Essentially we've done enough synthetic aperture of the Earth to have that very information. Some of which, I'm sure, is secured.

I love it when there is a crescent moon but also enough light (presumably reflected from the earth) to just make out the dark bit. It convinces me it is a sphere and not some weird shape shifting UFO

Are you talking about thoses Americans who are becoming blind after putting solar cream in their eyes in order to protect them from the solar eclipse... they will say that they've seen the president Thrump at TV fixing the eclipse without any protection !
It seems not to be disinformation, it is something else...

Well, as Europeans, me included, we use to think our fellows on the other side of the pond are generally somewhat challenged in comparison, but by the years I have come to understand our world functions a bit different than meets the eyes of the general public.
The quote in the previous post is not an origin of me but by someone else, and I certainly didn't post it because of it containing the word "American", it could have been "world citizens" or suchlike, Au contraire moa think they are great, but perhaps victims of a certain dumbing down activity by the man behind the curtain, if that may illuminate.

I just ran across this photo on wiki of a shot from a US launched V2 in 1946, pre-NASA. It appears to me that the image shows curvature. I suppose this is either (1) fake, or (2) proof the conspiracy goes back a long time.

Probably no flat-earthers here to defend against that. Maybe they would say if planet means a sphere, then earth is more of a platter than a planet. What would you expect?
That is the crux of the flat earth fantasy...flat earthers will only tell you what it isn't (spherical), not what it is and certainly not how all observations can be holistically reconciled with a flat earth. The generally accepted tenets of cosmology (rotating spherical bodies in elliptical orbits around rotating stars with smaller rotating spheres orbiting some bodies) provides the simplest structure explaining all observations. Sunrise/sunset times, seasonality, length of day variation with latitude, eclipses and their paths, tides, and on and on have simple explanations until you posit a flat Earth. Occam was a wise philosopher.
Once people have firmly made up their minds, facts no longer matter. A common aspect of human nature, not just for flat earthers.
Yes but I don't think there is much "mind" involved here...pretty much equal parts ego and denial.
