The ISS passes into the dark side of the earth for roughly half of each of its 90 minute orbits. During this time no video is available.
What do you put on your feed when there is no video due to darkness? There are several re-feeds of the NASA video, with this being one of them. I bookmarked this one because it shows where the ISS is in real time.
I have seen video from the ISS during night time. All you see are the lights from areas of high population density.

Must be some other light, no one lives on the underside of the disc....
How do you know that? I know Pano said that but........... As I mentioned earlier it is impossible to verify that even the turtle exists.
Feeding them with rational explanations won't do anything at all, I'm afraid, only will make them more suspicious . We always think that rationality can cure irrationality, but facts show us that this is an irrational thought too, and that people won't change his beliefs in the basis of scientific demonstrations.
One of the hardest things I have leaned is the revelation that "rational persuasion" Is the MOST likely way to create resistance to an idea!
Research shows it, but for a technical person it just doesn't make sense!! It's no wonder so many technical people bang their heads against the wall wondering why people just don't get it. It doesn't matter how much evidence you put forward, it just makes your position weaker.
As far as I can tell so far, questioning that leads to realizations, and the belief that the person trying to be convinced has worked it out for himself, are the most likely ways to get buy in for a particular outcome/idea.
Tony.
Absolutely, the best way is to ask questions and let them work it out for themselves, and if they don't want to, so be it, does it really matter? Particularly the flatists, I've been trying to think if there is any way they can do any real harm by their beliefs, and I can't, unlike political or religious beliefs
... (snip) ... His belief is that [they] stand still while the heavens rotates around [them] including the sun.
We have those guys in Canada. We call them Toronto residents. Edits mine.

I read it in a book, so it must be true..... 🙂
No one lives on the other side.
No one really knows what is down there
I read this on a very serious internet forum........😕
Let us hope they don't decide to become airline pilots or sea captains, as navigation will always be confusing for them on longer journeys.scottjoplin said:Particularly the flatists, I've been trying to think if there is any way they can do any real harm by their beliefs

I think they're already confused.😉

By the way, that is some beautiful NASA footage.
I grew up in the 60s reading Asimov, Heinlein, etc, when Space Exploration was "Science Fiction".
I'm floored by the advances we have made.
I never dreamed that we would have commercial space flights within my lifetime, and hope to live long enough to see us establish a colony on the moon or other planet (Mars).
I still think a Moon base makes more sense as a jumping off point to Mars, rather than going for Mars first.

Out of topic and no intention to open a can of worms but the question about Van Allen radiation belts holds for a long time -I was still at school- and doesn't seem to have been answered properly...By the way, that is some beautiful NASA footage.

Ask the girls, they know.
They do. And they know the earth isn't flat.

Hey fat chicks need love too 😛
I have also wondered about the radiation belt. Wasn't the sun in a very active period as far as coronal mass ejections during the moon missions?

Oh, man!
I meet one tonight at the Acoustic Coffee House. I was setting there drinking a beer and reading "The world Before Yesterday" by Jared Diamond and this person sets down and asked me what I'm reading.
Easy intro to tell me about the Flat Earth, Admiral Perry discovering South Pole with submarines and helicopters, Tesla inventing free energy, etc.
His big point was that we could not feel ourselves moving through space, so the earth was not revolving around the sun. When I explained to him, If you were in a car doing 60mph with a blindfold on, you couldn't feel yourself moving because you were going at a constant velocity, he started going on about wind and the windshield. Fortunately the music resumed at this point and he wandered off seeking another audience.
