You would never know a transformer is there by listening.
On the other hand, you'd definitely know if it wasn't there.

tintinambulation -- been in the vernacular too long to be considered a "neologism"It includes a lovely neologism, "tintinambulation".
The Aleph series was ground breaking at the time when compared to other solid state amps. Yet it sounded like an average transformer coupled old tube amp of yore. The Aleph was on the dark and full side of neutral with better bass of those old tube designs of the past. Pleasant to listen to. It did not outpace a well designed tube amp of the time. The Aleph sounded like it had your average transformer in the signal path.
you just forgot to say that is nothing wrong having average transformer in signal path , as long preceding stages are up to task

Nothing wrong with a will designed transformer in the signal path. I use a transformer volume control. I have no desire to go back to an active line stage.

With the "m" in it? Well, shucks. News to me.
Papa's M2 have 2 jfets , 2 mosfets , 2 bjts , one opto (?!?) and one biggie cap , plus tiny one
There are no BJ transistors in the M2.

baaaad Papa , baaad !
pulling my leg now ....... to draw (another) Babelfish M2

it seems - you have impression that ZM is too calm these days

If i were to post that, it would be deleted. It's just not fair (sometimes).

Papa lo longer shows us full schematics, just because he is having great fun seeing us wonder what's in a box 🙂 Now the only way to find out would be to send one half-finished M2 to ZM, and he will fill out the rest

naah ......
we already know everything needed , tnx to JapZMs from start of the thread
buff-iron-lightning follower stage
Papa send me haiku , freely translated as "ZM's head is full of ...... redundant parts"
maybe , just maybe , one day I'll learn how to achieve elegance and grace

Papa,
Question for you - have you ever tested the M2 on speakers with sufficient impedance to remove the need for the autoformer? You've said the performance of the autoformer drives the distortion performance - what happens when it goes away into a, say, 32 ohm load?
Thanks!

The autoformer sees a high impedance load (the Gates of
the Mosfets in parallel with several Kohm) and this load
is pretty independent of the speaker impedance.

All your base are belong to us...

My understanding is that the M2 is architecturally similar to a B1 driving a step-up autoformer, which drives an F4. Details are no doubt different.have you ever tested the M2 on speakers with sufficient impedance to remove the need for the autoformer?
Removing the autoformer removes the gain. Upping the impedance merely cuts the power further.
The most interesting detail is the bias circuit, which locks
the bias value to high precision but allows excursion
beyond the bias point (Class AB) without altering the bias.
I would patent it if I believed in patents anymore...

There is a small review of M2 at tone audio

That is very positive........
I am still waiting for the full review promised one year ago here on page 179

Generg,
how is your cripped F4/M2 Clone doing with Electra-Print tranny?
