If you build the FHXL's, you may want to have more power on tap at some point. Just depends on your listening preferences. I won't dissuade you from building the speakers, as the A10p drivers are excellent, especially in the big FH. I've had some listening time with them (courtesy of P10), and found them to be a very balanced sounding speaker, with extended bass and very good top end. A very easy speaker to like, regardless of music genres.

That is the metal version of the driver. Alpair 10.3 that we have been discussing as an alternative all along. It is equally good just in different places.
With your 300B SE the extra 3 dB of the paper cone driver looms large.

PS: they may be called gold, but the colour is copper. The Alpair 10.1 was available in gold.
In the end application it is the person's ear/brain that is the receiver of what the speakers produce not a cheap mic.
If we has a set of objective measrements capable of quantifying a loudspeaker you would be right, but w.th today's technology we are only scratching the surface,
But it sounds so good...
Note that what you are throwing out is all the same measurement displayed in different ways. And note that Toole says they really need to be done in an anechoic chamber (to get a really good CSD that is certainly the case), and that Geddes says the THD is a useless measure.
Measures are a useful tool for the designer. More than that....

The jordan JX92 fits in the smaller Frugel-Horn Mk3. It is a highly respected driver. I have had 3 pair thru here. Each a case of "they can't be as bad as they sound so i must have got a bad one". They have some HF crap that really grates on my ears, Chris had the same take on them. If the HF stuff does not bother you they are probably great, given the number of people that really like theirs that is likely the case.
Besides they are no longer available.
It should be noted that Mark was Ted Jordan's apprentice. The 1st gen Alpairs were not far removed from the Jordans, including some, but not all that HF crud. They have come a long way since then.

I have both the A10P and the A10M. I am aware of the distortion spike at 600Hz. The A7P has the same feature. I have the A10.3's in my HT rig in MLTL's When listening to music, other that 6-sting guitar and such, I turn the sub off. Very nice speaker.

Eventually I will be DIYing mono blocks.
But for now I'm going with this 8W as it is affordable and should do enough.
I know this question is difficult, but what db could I expect in a 15 X 15 room?
I'm fairly convinced on the 10pFHXL combination.
I've still not purchased the drivers. But will be doing so this afternoon unless someone can convince me otherwise.
I would like these speakers built shortly, so I would like to settle on design etc today.
Can anyone point me in a direction for good ply supplies in Australia. Preferably near Brisbane.

How far will you be away from them?
This is very dependent on your room, how solid it is, how leaky it is and how reflective.
About 90 dB at 1m 1 speaker. Near 99 dB at full tilt, 102 dB with 2 speakers.
Say 10 dB of head room (SE amps usually clip gracefully), so 92 dB at 1 m average levels. That is loud.
But sound falls off at 6 dB per doubling of distance (when not in a room, in a room things start leveling off at some point) so you can probably say 84-86 dB at 3m (now there is just enuff room to walk behind your couch. Still pretty loud.

Box design aquired, time to sort out the ply and Cables, ive had one suggestion for good cables, and am happy to hear more.
I will be running speaker cable directly to the drivers, i will not require terminal blocks. why? because i want to.
ill admit that the fancy design and principle (which is scientifically sound *pun intended*) of these are alluring, QED Silver Anniversary XT Speaker Cable ? U & S Audio Visual
But i doubt my equipment will make real use of them.
I have also had a bit of a change of plans regarding Amplifier.
due to a lenghtier delay, i have opted for a 10W SE. it is built by hayruss2012 on eBay
who seems genuine and knowledgeable, and the amp has good reviews online.
