still no juice! i put in a 100k resistor and its a touch better but not by much. At 1/4 volume on the preamp it sounds clear, but its still very very quiet. After 1/4 volume its nothing but distortion and you can't hear any of the music.
any suggestions?
and i am using a 1/2 watt resistor..... i have a 1/4 watt one if that would help.... again I don't have a clue about this stuff yet.

I would double check all my wiring, especially the connections that go off the PCB like the output transformer. Still check the PCB though, sometimes a bad solder joint or a trace on the PCB bridged with solder will drive you nuts.
The resistor wattage is not important here 1/4 watt is fine, the 1/2 watt won't hurt anything.
Good luck.

I made a stupid mistake with similar outcome on my first build, what you should do is take Voltage readings on everything (EVERYTHING) and let us know what the voltages are at certain points. I did this over and over until I realized that I was using a 6vCT heater winding when I thought I was using 12v
