Otherwise, opinions come off as arbitrary.

I had an onkyo receiver that sounded great, but one channel kept shorting out. Returned it for Kenwood, then a Technics, Pioneer, and others I cannot even remember...

Then I bought the receiver I had for the next 20 years. A Luxman RX102 (with that goofy retracting Fascia). Paired with a pair of B&W DM220i and a Denon Turntable, I had the best stereo in College (1984)....I was the audio "dude". I had noise issues for a while in late 1990, so I put aside the Luxman and bought a Carver 100w amp and preamp (TFM-15 and CT-6?) It sounded aweful. I had that for two years until I got the nerve to fix the Luxman. After an easy cleaning, I sold the Carvers...and was happy again...

It was only until 2004 I started building, and building, and building.

Now I have Magnepan Tympani IVa paired with a Krell KSA-50 Clone. Once again, I am the audio "dude".

I have plans to experiment with JLH, Aleph 5 clone (own a real one now), Naim NAP 140, and an assortment of other tube designs.

And have experimented with Icepower, UCD, Gainclone, Tripath, Equibit, homebuilt PP 6L6GC, Quicksilver 8417, ESP P-101, etc.

The P-101 and the Aleph 5 really are excellent amps and are on my best list with the Luxman. Onkyo always made a good amp too.
