Fancy Interconnects? How about a potato, or even mud?

Excellent choice of tracks to use for comparisons, Pano, covers just about every area ...

I've got a pick order, with a variation: a quality ranking, and a slight reordering based on noise content. Done again on PC and cheapo speakers, with FLAC through Audacity.

So, do we want to make it a secret ballot ...?

I'm finding these as difficult as the first lot.... I'm starting to seriously doubt my ability to here subtle differences, or perhaps the quality of my playback! I've got one pegged as being better than the others at the moment, but still not quite sure...

Funnily I was listening as typing this and thought hang on that one sounds better, and it was the one I first picked... maybe something in it. and maybe something about being distracted and not trying too hard to listen 😉

Thanks Tony. We have some more results in via PM. Frank (fas42) did very well. He called the original and the metals correctly (tho he swapped the two metals). In a guess, he seems to have gotten the mud, too.

Keep on listening!

The cymbals at the end of the last track I think are a good indicator, I think If I am to pick the metals from the liquids it will be based on those perhaps. when I listened to the tracks first on the crappy usb headphones, the first vocal track had some nasty distortion on the right channel at the end of the track which seemed first listen to be worse on some tracks than others, but then I started to not be able to tell :rolleys:

On the headphones, the piano sounded like an electronic one so I gave up on those and came and listened on the real system. It's much more lifelike there, the thing than seems a bit odd though is how quick the decay is on some notes. Must have some very good damping on the strings!!

My tinnitus is terrible tonight so that probably isn't helping. I reckon it is probably at about the 40db level perhaps even higher!!

I found listening on headhones from a laptop masked a lot of the differences. Play them on the main system and the differences do become apparent. Putting them into perspective though, and apart from one which was a bit grim, I think its amazing how good they all are.

I think it was a better class of mud this time round 😀

I can post my subjective impressions as I wrote them down (obviously in a totally mixed up order so as not to identify the tracks) if you think it would add to the fun factor 🙂

Oh yeah I can't count either 😀

Time for bed, I guess I will find out how badly I did in the morning... In my defense, I'm listening with a cheap ASUS motherboard on board sound playing direct into my trusty old playmaster series 200 mosfet amp.... an amp that many consider to not be that great (though I still prefer it to my LM3886).

Tony.

Thanks Tony for your efforts and your guesses. You did well! You picked the original. You did get the mud, copper and steel wool a little mixed up, but that's to be expected. The mud is surprisingly good - it just picks up some noise out of the air.

I don't really expect anyone to be able to identify which liquid is which. How many of us have experience listening to wine or coffee wires? 😀

ok, since Frank managed to tell these apart on his TV, he made me curious.
turns out my system sucks pretty bad, it will be on sale quickly for $100.

seriously, C sounds muffled and D has some weird modulated noise. apart from that I lost patience quickly as the clips contains excerpts from 3 different songs and it makes it pretty frustrating to skip to the portion of interest. and I'm too lazy to split them 🙂
