Tea Bag has been selling for a while. Great to deal with. We talked about a larger order, but he says he doesnt sell many in a year. Too big a layout to hold. 1000 would bring the price down to about $20 each macthed.
ME too. Now that I fried one of my R085's, I am going with pure SE with either resistor load or CCS. That will determine if i get more for SRPP. Nelson saying they sounded flat compared to SiT's killed my enthusiasm

I've gotten the last batch sold for 25.00 each matched. Going for 1000 would be more money than I would spend on a car, and holding onto them for that long without a pipeline of people to sell them is too risky for me. And for a ten dollar or so difference between them is no big deal on my book, compared to decent tubes.
I am looking into getting another batch. Looks like the price is on the increase again. R100A's at newark are going to jump on their next shipment according to their sales rep. So uncertain if I hold out for a lower bid, or buy them before a price jump. Such is life and risk.
The R100's in most circuits sound exceptional to me, as do fairchilds.

I didn't care for Toshibas too much, good detail but not a tone I like.
Anyways, don't want to threadjack Buzz.
No threadjacking at all. Very valuable info. I agree. The cost is such that a large order would have to be preceded by a GB notice. 1000 would be worth more than both my cars😀
😀😀😀
U got 2 cars ....😱

I think the Semisouth parts will become popular if and when there's a proven circuit for those parts. and it actually sounds better than the popular F5 which nearly everyone has built.

1 and 1/2, TBO 😀. Both have over 200K on them. I am cheap and believe in running them ntil i can set them on fire without feeling guilty. I always wanted to put explosives in the engine and see what would happen. There is a fertilizer plant nearby that has most of the goods

some like F5 , some J2 , some M2 , some J etc.
mosfets or Jfets ....
of mentioned - F5 is my least favorite

I think there's more to it than "to each his own" Some things are just better than others. Why else would one pay $25 a piece for outputs?
ok ok i agree with you...i'm spoiled too, (thanks to you) i like my semisouth babelfish better too ( listening to it now 🙂), which is not to say bad things about F5 it's just that the other is even better😎
I think the truth is that for an amp so easy to make F5 is surprisingly good.
Of course there is a lot of effort to make it even better...look at all the versions on the Forum.
Although i do agree that the Semisouths are a huge leap ahead.

When i listen to commercial megabuck amps and feel like running home to listen to mine.....i understand why i would pay even more than $25 (...well i did i bought from first batches....).
interesting parallel :
F5 is having 4 active parts
J is having 4 active parts
J2 is having 4 active parts
M2 is having 4 active parts
F6 is having 4 active parts
SIT1 is having 1 active part (3 if input buffer used)
SIT2 is having 2 active parts (4 if input buffer used)
lazy to go back from F5 ......
edit : and yes , some ppl are paying much much more for preamp toobz .........
I'm scared to even calculate what amount of greenies will be tossed in my future phono preamp with toobz .........
