Fair dinkum* Aussie summer.

In the underside part of the earth here it is summeritme. It was forecast to be 42 degC today :dead: but at about 3:30pm local time I went outside for a look-see. I just had to get the camera. I've lived in Melbourne all my life but I have never *seen* it this hot before. This is air temperature, in the shade, down at ground level against the fence. Note the colour of the grass in my front yard; we are having a drought here. Perhaps the greenhouse effect is finally starting to bite?

I hope you built all your DIY electronics with mil-spec parts!!!

In contrast, in southern parts of eastern Canada, it's getting to lows of -30 deg C. I heard that because of the wind chill, it's getting to be -45 deg C.

Here in Vancouver, tomorrow's forecast is a low of 5 deg C and a high of 10 deg C. No significant snowfall yet this year!

Graham is dead right.

Today, in Melbourne, we had an official 44.1C! This is 111.4F, and has been the hottest day since 1939, when it hit 46.5C on one day in January!

I have spent the day in my only air conditioned room....... It is now 8:30pm and still 32C. :hot:

Those who are experiencing a cold winter should consider the insane opposite. I wish I lived in Canada right now! :bawling:

Cheers,

Hugh

You make me long for the SUMMER! 🙂

Last summer was one of the best and warmest for 20 years.
Here up in the north of Sweden. 65 degrees North.
Right now it is 5.5 C below the freezingpoint.
All white out, but the days are short.
Darkness begins already at 5 or 6 PM.

Summer will come here in May - June.
By then you will have your wintertime over there in Australia.

But www.diyaudio.com is open every season!

not much better in qld, guys. i don't know about the humidity down south, but the other day sitting directly in front of the fan (that was going flat out, incidently) i was sweating like a pig. sticky stuff. makes me glad i haven't got around to that class a amp yet.

Intense Freeze Closes Schools in Georgia, USA

And Georgia is a Southern state. Deep South. It is one of those places Americans usually go to in order to be warm in the winter!

Those amazing temperatures are in Fahrenheit.

ATLANTA (AP) Even though roads were clear of snow, sleet and ice Friday, schools around Georgia closed because of brutal cold.

School officials and parents didn't want children who were not used to such temperatures waiting for buses or walking to school in temperatures below 10 degrees.

A car radiator at my end, another in Canada or Sweden or Norway or whatever, connect the two with pipes, add a circulation pump, fill it with antifreeze and water, blow air through each radiator with a BIG fan. Then you could transfer my heat to your place and your cold to me. 😎 Symbiosis at it's finest.

Western Australians Should Not Be Surprised

Folks in Western Australia should have been expecting it.

You have held the World Record for the hottest summer for over 75 years.

"Longest hot spell (world): Marble Bar, W. Australia, 100 °F (38 °C) (or above) for 162 consecutive days, Oct. 30, 1923 to Apr. 7, 1924."

90 degrees F must seem like a cold snap. 😉

I give you some cold - for some of your warmth

We have had a winter where it was really cold for a month
around Christmas.
It was several periods with below -30 C. (below -22 F)

You don't go out much such days.... :bawling:

/halo - in dreams of Australia - one hotspot of this globe :trapper: :trapper:

Interestingly, the global warming effect could bring about BOTH extreme drought in Australia and extreme cold in Canada & Northern Europe.

This is because the melting icecaps dump huge amounts of fresh water into the oceans, which stuffs up the currents and stops the warm water from the tropics circulating around northern American continent & Europe... Apparently this current has declined by 20% in the last 50 years or so...

Without the warming effect of the current, Canada and northern europe would turn into Siberia.

Ironically, global warming could bring about an ice age!

As a matter of fact, I have read that that is precisely what the preserved tree ring record says.

Trees add a ring of growth every year. When it is a warm year, the growth is thick. In cold years, the groth is thin.

Analysis of tree rings from preserved trees show that just before Ice Ages occur, things get very warm, then turn cold. Suddenly. within a decade or so.

I'm not saying that is what is happening now, just mentioning what the record indicates.
