buy Intact audio 200$ AVC
when you get some time , put complementary JFet buffer in front of it and you're done , for good
I second what ZM says about the Dave Slagle autoformers.
You can read about my build in that forum. Very realistic presentation. Superb sound; in fact better overall than a several $K Music First Audio TVC connected to a system with Pass XA100.8 and Wilson Alexias.

Zoooo... this Autoformer cobble up will 'better' My 11$ Chi-Fi stepped att contraption 🙄
You are the Devil... introducing new temptations 😀
A little off topic but since we are talking about "autoformers."
My fully balanced build: Poseidon's Voice Lazarus
Measurements: TAP-X measurements
Dave Slagle & John Chapman rock!
😀
Best,
Anand.

mine are still in messy environment , but that would change soon - new case with buffers in front
though , I have no need for balanced (living room system) and for remote and for display

Can anyone give me some recommendations on power supply caps for my F6 build. There doesn't seem to be much preference for any particular item from what I have seen. Am looking at Cornell Dubiler slpx at the moment - these have good availability (I use mouser or rs components as there are no local stores in Tasmania where I live) and price seems fair, however if there are more worthwhile options I would be interested in knowing about them. Thanks Nigel.

Hi Bare,
I'm with you on those cheap Chinese DACT pots, I used one on a past amp project and was really surprised how good it sounded. Because of that experience on subsequent projects I saved my pennies and moved up to a ladder pot using dale resistors, can't really say that it sounded that much better, just cost more. Both bettered optical types that I tried in my opinion.

Try APEX Jr, he has some 63V 15,000 uF 105 C caps for a nice price.

Hey! I had no illusions.. low price, dubious provenance.. merely expedient.
That said, years ago I had a demo of Overpriced Shallco ladder atts.
I couldn't hear any difference.. which is All that mattered to me
Those Autoformers... Do tempt though 😱.
Caps? I used Mouser part # 647-LGU1V153MELB
Simple & easy.. working 'fine'

Nigel,
I used CD slpx caps in my F6 from RS and they work just fine.
I also live in Tasmania, good luck with the build.

Got my F6 running today, upgrade from F5.
I am very pleased with the sound.
Warm and rich but with excellent detail and sound stage.
Looks like the F6 is a keeper and the F5 boards may go.
If it is of interest to UK builders Jfets (2sj74 2sk170 )
Were from "Little Diode shop.

6L6 thanks for your excellent build guide. This was my first amp build and your instructions made it very easy. The only error I made was to install one of the Zener's the wrong way round which became obvious when I ran my DC offset checks.
My F6 has around 20 hours on it and it sounds superb. Previously I was using an Audio Note SET amp and the F6 surpasses it in every area.
Now to choose a preamp to complement it.

Well at risk of being a fool or heretic!
I feed from my CD player just through a 10K stepped attenuator ( from E-bay)
Sounds good to me and plenty of volume adjustment.
My system is lacking gain though Colin. At max volume in Roon my system is loud but nothing like it could get before.
what's even more important , on your side of Big Splash , you can easily choose which repeater coil to use - Edcor or Jensen ......

BA3 FE as preamp. Plenty of gain.
