Wow, Cody! I saw something "strange" in your signature yesterday... 😀
Tell us MORE about the mod: operating points, adaptations, etc.

So far it’s been as simple as building a stock F5 and swapping the Toshiba transistors for the Fairchild or IRFP options. Bias is at the recommended 1A3. After digging through the links EUVL shared, I may come up with some other tweaks. That said, I almost hate to touch anything. It’s nearly perfect as-is 🙂
Smaller drain resistor values than IRFP.
Patrick
I’ll try that, thanks 🙂
You have already built, not ?
Why not remove the trimmers, measure their value, and replace with fixed resistors ?

That’s on my to-do list for sure. I’ve been trying to get in habit of replacing trimmers with fixed values when possible. I’m going to let it settle just a bit more, then will make the switch.
Concerning the degeneration resistors on the output parts, the tempco looks pretty reasonable to my untrained eye, so I’m thinking I could drop the values without too much concern for runaway or instability?
Sorry, I meant dual pair per channel. It's a mess, but it sounds good.

Pass: Those Toshibas are so special, I think I'll put something together for mine. Either a totally stripped F5 or a follower without degenerating resistors and a nice front end. Maybe both.
I thought I should post the old Papa's quote in case he takes notice and decides to pitch a schematic when he takes a coffee break from those Vfet projects 🙂
Hello dear forum members.
I am building an f5v2 with double transformers power supply, I bought all the PCB boards through the Diyaudio store, I have a Toshiba 2SK1530 / 2SJ201 from Spencer (FETaudio), and everything else as specified by Diyaudio store for building f5v2. ( I hope)
As i understand construction with Toshiba 2SK1530/2SJ201 the only difference is in the drain resistors everything else is ok to use?
I'm just an audiophile and I don't have the necessary knowledge in electronics and construction, I have a friend who has the necessary knowledge to do it for me.
Please help, (my goal is to put together an amplifier with all mentioned parts in first attempt to be perfect as far is this possible?).
I have a feeling I’ve set myself a to much difficult project with these parts. Maybe it would be smarter to stay on the specification as described on the Diyaudio store.
I apologize for my poor english.
Best regards.

vladov,
you will find the infoirmation you need inthe F5 turbo thread:
F5 Turbo Builders Thread
Search the thread for "Toshiba" or "2SK1530", several members have built that version.

I built mine exactly as you described and had terrific results. In fact, I don’t know that changing the drain resistors is absolutely necessary, though the parts will certainly accommodate lower values. I settled on .22R for mine.
Toshiba made some very fine audio fets. I have a small stash of the 1530 and 201 and a couple others.
Too bad they are not still making them.

Thank you all.
I am going to build like in the schematic, I am holding my fingers crosed for a good result.
Special thanks to mr. Nelson Pass for sharing his amplifier creations.
Best regards.

I have build the F5 a long time ago and tried also the 1530 and 201 and I can only say the same as codyt......
with these parts the F5 sounds heavenly!

The Toshiba's are one of the very few truely complementary devices.
F5 power amplifier
And for those who cannot get those Toshiba unobtanium's :
Complementary Power MOSFETs
Cheers,

Better on M2X than F5, because of the high Ciss of the NMOS.
Or you need high Idss JFETs.
