Jack,
You look particularly fetching this time around...but who would put lipstick on a pit bull? 😀
That was pretty quick with the avatar swap!
Original, looks and no brains is a change.

I better say something about diy hifi so they don't moderate that.
Ummm....
Power Supply question for the Fx series of amplifiers:
the .0033 line cap between the thermistors is uF or F in value? I bought 3300uF caps for this....do I need new ones?
Best,
Chris

That was uf.
Same political stuff started few minutes ago in B1 as well. Think its all Jacks fault 🙂 But I would prefer to "blame in on McCain, yeah yeah".

Where ***=Yes
***,*** I do.
If you do have no use for them.
Otherwise they will work fine in the B1

Uriah,
Nichicon 3300uF 63V
Digikey Part Number: 493-1131-ND
Let me know where to send them,
Chris
p.s. Does anyone want to recommend the right cap? .0033uF....brand and voltage? Digikey or Mouser part number would be great. Thank you.

Chris,
Brand doesn't matter but it has to be line rated, you'll see the designation in film caps at Mouser.

Thank you Bill. I didn't think it was a critical application calling for fancy stuff, but thought I would ask.

No problem, you could also use an IEC line filter inlet instead, maybe about 12 amps or so, I think 7 or 8 bucks, and you need an inlet anyway.

I already have an inlet and it doesn't include the filter. I'm working on a PS that can be used for mulitple Fx series amplifiers.
Hi guys,
Happy to tell you that 'We' are really surprise with the result. It sounds so sweet and detail on the whole spectrum, the mids and highs are enlightened after the change to MUR860. It sounds more open and vivid, but still maintaining lush and smooth with no edge. This diodes really did the tricks and give all the good ears a brand new picture to SS amp. It's almost 90% close to my 2A3 Pse and just lost a bit in thickness on body, but it won on the lower end punchy. Patricia Barber in Paris, track 8 - all notes jumped out from my speaker into your face, especially the drum it kicked you on every beat.
I've my F5 bias upped to 1.5A ( 0.705v across 0.47r ) and it obviously sounds better and thicker, but I don't know if I could lift the bias to 1.8 without hurting the other parts. The Mosfets are sitting at 70C, and the heatsink, still kind of cool, is at 42C.

If Tc is 70degC and Ts is 42degC then Rth c-s seems to indicate an enormous dissipation in the FET. What is Rth j-c and Tj?albertli said:The Mosfets are sitting at 70C, and the heatsink, still kind of cool, is at 42C.
Or, is there something wrong with the case to sink interface?
Layouts
Has anyone used this layout? I'm want to start building an F5, but do not have the ability to make my own boards.

EUVL-
About a month ago I said I would post some pictures of sqaure wave response for my clydesdale F5 driven into a reactive load. I am finally in a position to be able to do that.
What do you use as your reactive load? I have a large selection of speaker inductors, caps, and resistors on hand, so I should be able to come up with whatever is recommended.

F5 in class AB?
Hi
Quick question:
What do you recommend for temperature compensation means if an F5 amp would be used in class AB at higher power level?
(class A at lower power level then switching to class B for about 10W/8ohms and higher)
Thanks
