at the time
At the time was the November 1989 issue of L'Audiophile magazin
I have a danish manual on Hiraga, contains spec sheet on all devices etc
It was available as "kit" and 100% copy of original, supply and everything, excl case
I built it too
dates back from 1984
I have articles from danish "HighFidelity"
Careful study and explaining of 8watt "Monster"
History, background, schematics, the whole lot
Dates back from 1987

I was referring to an article of an active setup in L'Audiophile by a youngster named Richard Perez.
If you read the Blowtorch thread you'll find posts by Justcallmedad, who goes by that very same name.

Just got a mail that my 1meter heatsink is ready to be shipped
Expencive
but the best I could find 😛
45kilo shipped weight, man thats one heavy chunk of aluminium

is that going to be big enough? maybe you should order a few more just in case 😀
I am asking again.Has anyone tried 2sk1529/2sj200 ?I know they have less power but it is not important on sensitive spekers. My friend tried them and says they sound best of all !
So the temperatures (Celsius) results with bias 1,17 to 1,2 A for my amp after 3 hours:
Big heatsink - 45 ;
small sink - 60;
trafo - 32;
bridge 42.
I think i should buy mica instead of silicon pads.
yes - and it sounds great.😎
picture of 32000Hz sin wave, square i cant get from old generator - its looks like drunk square 😀

Yes i know this software stuff but im too lazy . 🙄 i prefer hardware tools- there is no need for these measurements- i just check whole range with scope and measure noise.
The double way low impedance feedback makes the difference compared to Profet.
yes bobo, you are right, but it isn t a significant difference...

posts #4 , #14 , #20 , #23 , #28, #31 .... and even more further in thread ;
read what is said and be aware that Profet probably had more internet hits tnx to Nelson and greedy boyz at DiyA than before that .....
I'm Roger & Over of that issue - feel free to think what you want 🙂
Wahab,
have you ever built or/and listened to a Profet?
Have you ever built or/and listened to an F5?
Or did you run simulations only?
Had you the opportunity to compare them by listening?
Or did you just look at the schematics?
What are the things that make your opinion?
We would like to know.

hi, bobo,
well, in france, where i live, the profet was(and still is) seen as a high end audio amp, and i didn t escape the thing, as i did built a sample using
2SJ48/2SK133 , the T03 120V version of hitachi s lateral fets.
I went as far as testing it with 6 case/channel , to balance
the high RDSon of these devices..
the sound was good, but i found it not as good than the
complementary differential using the same fets as output devices...
nowadays, i didn t say that these amps are bad, moreover, i think that
they sound very good in respect of the very simple designs..
all i can say is that push pull designs without enough negative feedback produce a lot of third harmonics even in class A, thus, rendering the harmonic 2 canceling useless...
in my tries, the simple topologies work well in class A, but they can t match
a complementary differential with push pull biased in class A or even deep
class AB...
all the best
wahab

Its ok, and we wont try to convince you of anything else by suggesting to build F5
Thats what its about
Im sure you will find good AB amps around here too
If not, it might be a chance to start a thread with your amp

These HEXFETs have 7 times more transconductance than Hitachi's laterals so you can't make such a direct comparison.
The F5's measurement results can be seen here:
http://www.firstwatt.com/downloads/F5 Power Amplifier for PassDIY.pdf
(H3 at 1W at 8 Ohms load at 1Khz is about -97dB)
If you are after measured results this is not bad, right?
I think Gaborbela built the Grand Mos, he could probably make some comment when he finishes his F5.
Wahab,
I suggest you P2P hook one F5 up, so that you know what you are talking about.
It is so simple and you are experienced: it would not be too much time consuminng.
