For the benefit of the internet and people searching the same issue in the future.
I did the following:
- Twisted all the wires (only slight change; after this I did everything at once so not sure what actually did it)
- Installed the SSR DC speaker protectors from the GB here
- Removed the ground connection between the RCAs to return to the original layout
- Replaced the input wiring with tightly twisted 16AWG wiring, long enough that it is bent towards the cover, far away from everything
- Tied the transformer shield to the case as closely as possible (read that somewhere)
No more hum and sounds amazing!
