Re: PSU PCB

Thanks for the information Peter

As i have now
14 pcs elna for audio 10.000uf 63v
very big hope i can use it to power F5
is that ok if i use 2 psu pcb for stereo
2 pcb x 2 psu x 20.000uf for stereo ?

oh yes what for 4 x 0.47 r in that psu ?

So if you making one amplifier with two power supplies in it, one for each channel, then having four 10,000 per side is good.
You could use less resistors on Peter PSU boards, for instance one 12w or higher .1 ohm or 2 10w .22 ohm per CRC path.

Resistors

I based my choices for F3 on what I learned with GC and the results were pretty satisfactory, in fact F3 is still my reference amp for mids and highs.

So Mills would be for power, Caddocks for input shunt and feedback, and Vishays S102 for series resistors.

Peter, anyone for the F5,
Are the series resistors - SWAG here -
R9,R10 R13,14?

vishay s102 or VSH

Hi Peter

I noticed that the S102 resistors ($11.95) are about 2-3X the price of the the VSH bulk foil resistors at Percy and double the price of the Vishay VTAs at partsconnexion. Have you compared these 3 bulk foil resistors? If so which ones do you recommend. Also, partsconnexion now have takman carbon resistors. Have you tried these for series resistors?

Thanks

Jim,
I got a qoute from Texas components that make these resistors. (pretty sure)
I looked for qoutes on the 'nude' resistors for 1k R9, and 47 ohm gates.
Here is what I got. One reflects a single buy. A group buy doesn't help much. If we can get Mike Percy to do a large group buy of these, it looks like it would save a lot.

From Texas instruments.
Hello Mike,

Your quote is as follows:

[4] TX2352 1K0000 1.0% $6.95ea
[8] TX2352 47R000 1.0% $6.95ea

[100] TX2352 1K0000 1.0% $6.21ea
[200] TX2352 47R000 1.0% $6.21ea

Parts ship 2 weeks after order placement.

Great find, thanks! I am surprised that they only give about 10% discount for larger quantities. I was looking at the specs for their resistors and the TX2575 are also listed as "naked" bulf metal foil resistors. TC's look better. Did you happen to ask for a quote for these? Has anyone tried these?

Thanks

I asked about the 2575's, called em on the tele.

$9.40each <100
>100 8.39each.

I did find this thread regarding the texas components resistors.

Maybe being from texas, you could get a bigger discount??

I think asking Mike Percy about those 3.95 vishays is worth it, although I am not sure it's the same animal. 😕

Peter,

As usual I am late getting in to these group buys - what I was after were the PSU boards - I have just signed up for 4 F1 boards so would I need to order 4 of the psu boards or 2? And more importantly are they still available - if so I will add my request to the Wiki.

Thanks

Alan

Re: Re: vishay s102 or VSH

from Audiogon
You are correct! A transparent, non-inductive resistor like the Bulk Foil Vishays(or Caddock Ultra- Precision Film) will make an audible improvement vitually anywhere it's installed in the signal path.

That is not correct. On many occasions I noticed actually degradation comparing to regular resistors. Exotic resistors, or other parts, should be used carefully and chosen specifically for a particular location in a circuit. Not everything works well, and quite often, it is not an improvement but only a different flavour of questionable merit. Please see below my Ono boards: p2p with silver wire, packed with exotic resistors (even trimpots are Vishays) and yet, I didn't really like the results much 😉

I am putting these TX2575 resistors in my JLH amp.
I can't comment on how they sound yet though.

I'm receiving emails from people if they missed that group buy.

In fact I didn't close it yet and I didn't receive the boards yet, although I already got confirmation that F3/F4 and PS boards are fabricated, but I will probably wait for them to be shipped together with F5.

So if you are still interested in those boards, especially F5 as I ordered way more that interest showed, contact me for payment info or just go with the ordering info that was posted many times before.

Happy New Year!!!
