Explendid amplifier designed by Michael Bittner, our MikeB

Hi Pavel, that's why i chose the film caps, they are superior in quality, but obviously they are not easy to get everywhere, especially the smaller ones. (case size)
The Wima-caps are only easily available in europe. www.reichelt.de for example is official redistributor for Wima.
I am not familiar with other manufacturers outside europe. Maybe Vishay ? Or Epcos ?

HI
Thanks for all of you for the help . I will try 1uF foil and 4.7uf N type Black gate .Wich one will be better I will leave in the amp.
Some amp guru say it is better to use N type BG caps than foil at these place . I will use it because it cheap and avaleble ... It just to expensive to order from Europe Wima or other small size foil capcacitor . Even to my Aleph 1.7 preamp I order 10uF N type Black gate capacitors ..
Thanks for your hellp , I will let you know the result after I finnish the amp .
Regards

Hi Spirtos, you did a nice job with the silkscren and modifying to your available parts !
Gaborbela, i am looking forward to your impressions, would be interesting how the BG performs.

Maybe i should buy a bag full of the wimas and send them to someone in Canada/US to spread ? The Wima MKS2 4.7uF costs 1.80€ here... (and some of the micas that fit the board layout, 0.91€ for the 330pf)
The 10uf is quite expensive with 3.80€, but gives an audible improvement for the bass.

Mike

Thanks Mike, about WIMA, guys from US/Canada, can use something similar. Digikey have Panasonic ECQ-P series capacitors.I haven't use them but I have heard and read that they are similar to WIMA MKS and MKP series, cheap and with small dimensions.
BTW in point of C1 I have to mention from my personal experience that Black Gate Electrolytics are very expensive and strange component. They are perfect for Tubes but not the same in solid state creations. Anyway they haven't the same sonic behavior in every case. Polypropylene and Tin foil are the best materials for audio applications in most of times.

Hi Mike,
It's the 5mm spacing that's killing us. I have no complaint about a larger PCB.

You know what? I'm thinking of getting some LS389 in a can to stick in your amp. Once I have it running. Time is now the issue if you don't count the 1uF input cap.

Hi Mike,
I looked at Mouser. Didn't like the price too much, or the availability. They want me to pay shipping separately for these B.O. parts on top of everything else.

I bought their polystyrene kits and had to hold the order for these parts. Still not here. Now if Digi-Key had them. They have the absolute best shipping of any disty. Newark isn't bad either.

The other caps are just too long. If possible, in new pcb's, can you plan for the larger dimensioned parts? You can always extend the trace so you can use your "shorties".

The only solution may be to buy a Solen "fast cap" (tm) and use it for the lead wire. Shielding may be a fun job! :clown:

North America is suffering and will continue to suffer by outsourcing manufacturing and tech jobs. Our hell and we built it.
