Please take this as a purely a hypothetical question, but what should a fellow do if he has four pairs of D9nf at his disposal? ("Give three pairs away to friends" does not count as an answer.) 😀

What ever shall I do?
One good pair of 9Dnf's could go to me at a good price...
I am, after all, so damn helpful.

I would say the proper answer is "Convince the wife to let said fellow experiment with enclosures for the drivers"
something else would be "Measure each driver's specs" and compare them to see what the range of difference is on them. Then burn them in for a few weeks, and test them again.
Or, build a surround sound system with them

My D9nf's were very close when I got them, and I used them for several
months and re-ran the impedance curves. They did not alter in any
significant way.
😎
Okay, I note that "stick four of them on/in a single baffle/enclosure wired in parallel" was not among the replies . . . so my hypothetical life has just been made a little easier, in theory at least 😀

P.S. I'd really love a chance to hear a nice 9-inch Feastrex driver OB setup like the one Phil came up with . . . I'll never forget how nice the D9 "monster magnet" alnico units sounded stuffed into holes cut into large carboard boxes. (The units were resting atop loudspeaker enclosures and the cardboard boxes were held in place by the weight of the drivers. They sounded as wonderful as they looked ridiculous.)

Phil's D9nf's on OB are really sweet-sounding. And real beauties. The top end is soooo sweet.
It took my ears a few seconds to adjust to the ambient reflections in Phil's super-live room, but then my brain adjusted and now I crave that "bathed in sound" experience. It ruins you.

But of course!
Have you tried them in the "damped" room?
(The one the Maikos were in?)
Hey, are the Maikos still up for comparison in the big live room?
--never mind, I've already turning this into a half day event in my mind, listening, moving, comparing...

Hi Phil
Sorry if I missed it, but what if anything are you doing to HP the D9nf's?
cheers

Debra the ears
Great!
It will be good to see you and Debra again...
I removed the Maiko's from the small padded cell...
They will be quite easy to swap out with the 9Dnfs...
Both are in the big room...
Hey maybe we should drag the Harveys up too...
I have a pair of Lowthers for you as well...

We listen
We listen...
We move...
But no probes.
Always the question... it it better?
What else can an audio junkie do?

what is this (arbitrary?) midrange?
(heard too many things quoted).
isn't middle c 254 or 264, something like that.
don't know that it matters @ all, just curious...

Midband
Bell Labs defined the midrange decades ago as 200Hz - 4KHz. Everything below this is bass, everything above it is treble. Short, simple, scientific (as it's based on the equal loudness curve of human hearing) & to the point. If it worked for the pioneers of audio, it's good enough for me.
