The vintage light cone drivers are inexpensive and overlooked.
Right. The L Cao drivers are like that too, and have a
good response without a whizzer. Modest price for the
ceramic versions.
One of the best I've heard was a Jordan JX92s, DIY project is here: Jordan JX92S DIY Tower Loudspeakers
I have a pair of Fostex FE126e in Ron C's BLH design, A126 (or some such). After a couple of years of very sparse listening they have reached equilibrium and have a killer midrange, very clean and delicate. I think they could benefit from a circuit to tame some peaks or possibly, an eNable treatment.

Taming the FE126e is well documented.

FE206ES-R in Sachiko cabinets. Hooked up to a pair of 60 watt Atma-Sphere OTL's in a large room, they had it all.
Just wondering (as I happen to have a pair of 206ES-R around):
- would Sachiko's sound better than a pair of BIB's with these drivers..???
Anyone?

BIB's properly set up will have much more bass but I think the Sachikos will sound better overall.

I concurr, BIB trades finess for ease of build and monster bass. BIB require a corner, achiko really wants to be out into the room.
