ESLs have bad decay plots

i agree felt is needed to damp. i really cant measure difference in output at higher frequencys, and it sounds tighterand it will pull down resonance by more then 12 dB. i think its worth it, so much for see trough in my opninion

One should be careful with using damping materials. Too much damping and the result is loss of special detail of an ESL element. A lower open area (~30%) combined with silk screen mesh and very thin & fine cloth for dust cover can yield more or less flat frequency response without significant peaks at resonance and no subjective degradation of sound.

well i have 30% openess now, i really hear a resonance in the small high mid panels. if i put felt ? or velt? in front of it (1mm thick) i really can hear the low end getting tighter. same goes for the preforrated PCB panels without filt you cant use them down to the resonance with the stuff you can even use the rollof as crossover if people dont want to have crossovers 🙂
