ESH100 ( Hybrid ) Audiostatic

Hi , i just bought a set Audiostatic ESH100 ( H= Hybrid Version )and they are not working.

On the inside the electrics are different in both speakers which means the previous owner probably has tried to repair it and it did not work.

So now i'm looking for info on these speakers.

First of all i need to make the high voltage part working again so i'm looking for schematics, any at all on this model.

Also i wonder if it is possible to turn them in to full range esl's like the ES100 in case the Hybrid part is not working out.

If the high voltage supply is for sale some were i would be interested in that info too .

Thank you,Data.

as long as the transformers are ok, you can get any high voltage multiplier. by the way are the complete prints missing ? or just maybe some diodes burned?

take some pictures of the insides 🙂 there are basicly only 3 parts tranformers, high voltage, and crossover.

as for using them fullrange, i think there surface area is not big enough, another question is the spacing from membrane to wires, might be smaller on the hybrid models, and last but not least i dont know if they used the dual trannie in the hybride so it could be there is a lower stepup ration in these speakers. as for transformers i can get hold of second hand ones from audiostatics if you need any.

Hello WrineX, thanks for your reply, ill go and take some pictures of the setup.

Prints are not missing but the one on the left speaker is diffrent from the right speaker and they just look very poorly made to be honest so i'm not sure if these are the original boards.

Can you tell me if it is possible to open up the panels without destroying the mycra so i can, if necesary ,recoat the panels without replacing the mycra ?

second try for picture upload 😉, Thanks ABJensen

If it would be possible for me to buy a ready out of the box high voltage unit that is made for this model esl that would speed things up a bit, since i have no specs what so ever of the units. 2kv 3 kv 5 kv ? no idea 😉.

Those boards look very amateurish. I wonder if they are original. Is the factory still operational ?
If you have already esls you could transplant and test the HV power supply and trafo on them to make an educated guess. Still tricky because the esd is not known.
I wish you good luck re-enabling the stats.
Kind regards,
Simon

Yeah i agree Gofer , the brand is well known ( Audiostatic ) and i found some pics on a french site which show the original boards and they actually say made by Audiostatic on them, the ones in mine do not , so my guess is the previous owner tried making them and did not do a good job at it.

So basicly i'm looking for those ,original ,or same spec boards or some specs so i can try and built some myself and see were it goes from there, the woofers seem to be the original ones when i look at those french site pics and the frames and the foil also look ok.

And i tried one of them wit a HV supply form another esl (sombetszki 120 ) but there was almost no sound/volume, but those 120's are only a quarter the size of these ESH100's so possibly those HV's might just be to small.

Here is another pic of the bottom of the panels , i have no way to tell if this is connected correct or not if anybody has some info on this i would be a happy person 🙂.

Thanks , Data.

Ps, after uploading the picture is sideways don't know why, sorry about that.

Yep all not orginal. i doubt even the stator are, since i never seen red wires. always black. and the boards and the transformer are not original. but not all is lost.. you can still make some nice speakers with it. al audiostatics have 2 transformers. but since this is a hybride, im not sure... i dont know where you live in NL but you could always give me a call if you got any questions. i live in den haag

if they are original i might be a very very old model.

Those red wires look like magnet wire instead of normal hook-up wire with PVC insulation.
Perhaps you are right that these are some very early models.

Attached are some pics of another ESH-100 I had in my files from 10 years ago.
The PC board looks the same as the French pics, but in this case the transformer is mounted directly to the board.

Comparing the number of multiplier sections used in the hand-wired boards that came with the red-wire panels with those used on all other Audiostatic ESLs I have seen, I would guess the HV bias was around 2.5kV for the red-wire panels.

Aha it Looks like the red one is a home brew indeed, the Old one Looks like it suppose to be. The only problem
With getting a new transformer ( the only thing that really matters in the electronics you cant make yourself) is that al transformers used in the later models don't have a neutral wire so they use 2 in series. This one only uses one since it does not need the high stepup ratio. But it won't hurt if you woul rebuild it to something completely new. Can you measure dimensions of the panel also the dc spacing? If the do spacing and the surface area of the panel comes close to a es200rs you could make it fullrange or cross lower. The needed auto transformer used in the rs serie I can get to if needed, price would be around 40 each. But it might get a bit expensive compared to a old worn down es200rs or es100
