Well the alternative implies infinite currents and zero time...
So the theoretical model, with no R (or L) is the setup for the whole scam.
Same for the springs and pressure bottles etc... You can't release the springs without them vibrating or doing some work against something to leave them at rest. The bottle thing get messy as hell if you use real gas though.
I did actually do the calculus... so that was good! And you couldn't L'Hopital the damn thing if you wanted to... R drops out for crying out loud...duh!
Follow that link I posted a page back, then click "listing". He has a bunch of sucker-punch-brain-teasers there.

You know who should be here to really muck things up is jneutron!

Temptation to look for the sucker-punch-brain-teasers is high!
But I still can stand it! And I have to stand it, otherwise my class D amp will not be ready before 2046.
This thread here has already costed a lot of time, but I like it!
Beside seeing Poobah ending up in the same surprise as myself.... there was the nice comparison with the springs... and the hint about Einstein...
...3 pole explanation to clarify the charge issue in the L-C-switch-circuit (thank's Pafi)... learning that Heineken is not only available in China, but also in the Netherlands..... Chris prefers to cook in the plane instead of headache....
I am sure we are ready for wharp.

Hi poobah,
I don't have the mental horsepower, nor the inclination to do the math. So I sit back and watch you "guys" mess with the problem.
-Chris
I was mess'n whit cho bro! That's what I'm saying! The circuit has to have some R or L.
The sucker part is assuming it doesn't.

😀... I know... don't you have a plane to catch????????????
Choco got me reading about Dirac pulses now... (dang him).
And then I saw that accelerating charge emits photons...

Hi poobah,
I caught the next flight back. Didn't you notice I wasn't around earlier?
So you are telling me that accelerating electrons get a glow on?
Reality bites when the little fellas are having more fun than you are!

I got some glow about 15 feet away... Canadian in fact.
Gotta put my breathalyzer interlock on the keyboard first... so I don't "go wookiee" on some cable thread!
Maybe SY knows about accelerating charge emitting photons... do they absorb photons when they decelerate?

Hi poobah,
-Chris 😉
Yes! That's why one side of the Earth is dark, and the other side is light. Everything makes sense if you just sit and think about it.do they absorb photons when they decelerate?
-Chris 😉
When charges slow down, that's just negative acceleration. Energy comes from somewhere- photons are a source. Virtual photons are literally spooky.
Have I told you about my darkon theory of light (i.e., light is a reduction in the flux of darkons)?

Hi SY,
I'm glad the little photons have a bogie man too!
I heard that darkons are related to clap-ons.

He's yankin' my stalk now...

That is the basis for the last and next generation of light sources...bending an electron beam via a magnetic field. Google undulators, wigglers, and "advanced light source".
Cheers, John

I still have to learn a lot...!!!!

Meee toooo...

Re: the problem..
Initial thinking is, conservation of energy...IOW, final voltage being
1/sqr 2, or .7071.
But that requires 40% more charge...hmmmm..
So, what to do??? simple..
two 47,000 uF caps, one at 10 volts.
Poof, connect second, end result...5 volts..sunnavagun, conservation of charge...
Ok, so it's not as sexy as the equations...but somebody's gotta do it, right??
But I still hate the explanation about it being radiated..😡
Course, physics donnna care bout what I like or dislike..
Cheers, John
Have to confirm your research
...once upon a silly youngster (1995?).. two cap banks of 180 000uf (each 3x60000/63V), because I wanted to keep the influence of my multimeter low... my first experiment with 2 x 330uF did not satisfy me.
First bank at 53V, second at zero, then paralleled with just some scrapy wire ==>
big sparks, heat (small marks at my fingers, silly youngster I was...), light (radiation in the visible f-range), noise, interuptive heard beat (obviously psi energy
) ...and may be another deaf amateur radio hobbyist in the neighborhood...
But no charge lost.

Well John,
That is the rub now isn't it? Looking simply at charge through a potential it is easy enough to solve the "enigma" and demonstrate conservation of charge and energy... and there ZERO BS in that approach. This method looks at the before and after, but not the "during".
What a few are dismissing here (bless their dividing and conquering hearts) is that charge through a potential... energy, is a close cousin to current through a potential... just need some TIME is all. This is all well and good until practicality is involved and we realize that this cannot take place in zero time. In a real circuit, even on real paper, there has to be some time for things to happen.
Current through a potential requires one of two things: radiation via resistance, or storage in an inductor. Other wise we wind up with a bunch of electrons in motion with no explanation as to where that energy "lives" or "went".
What is most telling here is that the energy is easily "seen" here with a resistor... even as low as 1/3 of a yoctoOhm.
You of all people should have the superconductors, perfect switches, and scopes with 0 seconds/grat sweep speeds to analyze all this... do it at lunch... will you?
