I won't quote Douglas Self explanations about that design but of course there's a reason for such a choice. You may want to read this https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/new-doug-self-pre-amp-design.209004/18 jellybeans (op-amp packages) on the main board? Why so many for just a preamp?
I am happy the pcbs look to be great!
What's your plan for the boxe and front panel design?

Yes, PCBs quality is quite high 👍
I'm thinking about the chassis but I'm undecided yet. It will certainly take some time before boards implementation in any chassis. I first need to listen to the kit on the long run, let's say to make sure building this was a good move.
I'd have liked a 1U box but given the height of the heatsinks and sandwiched in/out boards, a 2U is mandatory.

I don't think that is the case in the UK. I ordered something off them a few weeks ago. They will add a handling charge.Farnell stocks many values but only sell to customers with VAT numbers
PS caps are listed with 1off prices so trying a 100pf in my basket at ~£2 didn't appear to be a problem but ~£10 handling charge added. 😉 I don't think that will be per part. A true trade account means no postage charges.
I don't recollect registering when I ordered a part. I did have a trade account with them but only because they knew I worked in electronics in a company that does deal with them. Lack of use has meant that has gone.
They also have another outlet - CPC more consumer orientated but they also stock parts.
RSWW is much the same but 1off prices may not be available. I do have an account with them and they apologised when they started adding shipping costs. 1off's may also not be available from the others - it varies. Depends what it is,
This week I made some progress.
Left to do : solder missing parts, wire boards together and have the faceplate machined. Drawing's white circles represent control knobs locations.

Brillant, the job looks professional, very impressive. I do not know if I will be able to do with the samelevel of quality

Thanks for the compliments, I try to achieve a clean job. Trickiest part was cutting the input/outputs panel, the rest is easy.what is/are your music sources(s)?
Music sources are essentially Studer analog and digital machines (Reel to reel, D780 DAT, D424 MO recorder, A730, D730, A764 tuner) and quite occasionnally Telefunken with Ortofon arm or Revox tangential turntables.
Looks good. I'd site the ribbon cable away from the power transformer, however.Today's progress..
Why ? It's only for powering the input relays.Looks good. I'd site the ribbon cable away from the power transformer, however.
There could be a possibility of hum pickup, although if it's just for energizing relay coils, then likelihood of induced hum is small, and it's no issue.
This is a good presentation of what it is possible to do and how to arrange the pcbs within the case. When do you think the first tests would be done in order to have your feedback. Back on the picture we can lots of old but profesionnal HIFI materials ! Are they from your job/business ?Started wiring +17/0/-17 & 15V supplies.
Let's say I have built, maintained and repaired so many pro and consumer audio products that it became an habit to do so.Are they from your job/business ?
I still have to fabricate all the boards interconnects, that alone will take some time, probably a week or so. Last front panel parts are almost ready. Then I will insert it in a system and focus on listening, but I feel confident about the result. When do you think the first tests would be done in order to have your feedback
Main elements of the front panel : aluminium front plate and engraved glossy plexiglass backplate, this one is to be installed behind front plate's rectangular aperture. 30mm diameter machined aluminium knobs are being fabricated.
