ELEKIT TU-8550 Pre-Amplifier

@Pl2se ,
The TU-8550 has 12AX7x4, 12AU7x2. These tubes came with the kit. The TU-8600S has JJ 300Bx2, 12AX7x1, 12AU7x2. The new chassis didn't really change the sound of the already fantastic sounding TU-8600S/TU-8550 combo in any way that I can hear.

Final Post. Unless interest peaks.
I want to thank the folks at SendCutSend. Not only was I a first time customer. This is the first time I've ever ordered an online sheet metal project. Jeff and the Folks at SCS treated me like their only customer. The other vendor I used was Front Panel Express. Here again I'm a first time customer. Working with their Panel design software was a breeze. Ordering the part was simple. However, shipping, through no fault of FPEx, got messed up. My package Arrived in Fort Worth and Departed some place in New England... So add an extra week to the delivery time. It appears this particular carrier hasn't quite got their teleporter dialed in yet. Next iteration of the faceplate will include edge sanding and I'll supply my own material. I'm getting a sample of Aluminum 6061 to see if it matches more closely. I did remove the buck converter and the original LEDs, short one of the LED connections and add a connection header to the other. Much simpler and preserves the delay relay staging light functionality.

After a little more prototyping, I'll make these parts available to the public.

Thanks To All,
Bobert

Finished building my TU-8550 last weekend and now very much enjoying the fruits of my labours:

Early listening impressions are very positive and its driving my F4 (DIY) which I recently completed, and ATC SCM 11's.

Using the valves that were supplied sounds great but I would appreciate any recommendations for alternatives particularly in the line, ie non-phono, section.
I'll leave it as is until the end of Feb so I can get better aquainted with the sound as it develops.

One inital though is the gain/volume is on the high side. So even driving my failry inefficient, 83dB ish Bookshelfs, wiht the F4 (no gain apparently) its on the louder than normal side of things at the 11 o'clock position (our living room is only approx 4m x 4m so not vast). Would using a lower gain tube such as the 5751 or the 12 AT7 still be within the reasonable operating envelope of the 12AX7's?

With the background from everyone on this site and the guide that came with it this has been a very enjoyable and pretty straightforward build with a few of the 'recommended' mods taken on board. So that is defintiely a big thankyou - much appreciated to all.

Will definitely look into one of the 'power amps' but thats a little way off yet. But maybe I'll dust off the vinyl side of things before then - nice to have a phono amp on the rack now 🙂

Thanks
Giles
