The only con as I see it is the extra AD conversion.
Pros are, variable slopes, delay, eq, and so forth...
Ofc, it depends a lot on what one really need.
I agree and I like DSPs but the OP was asking for analog crossover options ( I think).
The Ground Sound site looks to offer some interesting products.
Surprised there isn't more of this stuff around for the DIY field, given that the only disadvantage in going active is cost.
You are right about the analog options, I have been searching for over 3 years for a good one that isnt what I consider overpriced. Just none can be found. I suspect tha most people who actually use active designs have zero issues with DA conversions.
On the digital active XO side there are many, many options but honestly the Berhinger DCX2496 < $400 simply does amazing things. There is really no need for anything else unless you are the most nitpicky of people that thinks there are some SQ issues with it. The majority of DCX owners do not think there are issues though.
QSC, BSS, DBX,BBE are all other brands you could try. JBL recommended the BBE DS48 to someone on AVS forum recently. That digital XO (4 inputs, 8 outputs) goes for < $300!!
how about this : pioneer sf-700 , just the crossover.

Marchand active crossovers do all that in the analog domain.
I'm using a Marchand XM46 PLXXO to roll off my sealed BESL speakers at 70Hz BW2, with a Marchand XM44 for the subs at 24dB/octave. Phil is building me a pair of Linkwitz Transforms for the subs. I find the PLXXO is cleaner than the active XM44. I have an upgraded Welborne Labs power supply for the XM44 that I will install one day.
Not at the touch of a button and easily stored presets. And delay is very limited compared to a DCX, ditto EQ and once it's digital there is no extra resolution loss from passing it through a whole lot more opamps to accomplish this. Plus digital is cheaper, usually.Marchand active crossovers do all that in the analog domain.
