Not sure what your point is. I guess you bought "working" speakers.
Plug in mains and amplifier and play some music.

My point was
If anyone has experience of such a speaker
Looking at pictures if all looks safe and sound
Some electrostatic need time plugged in before playing

Hello Fella...Hello my old mucker, Bazza.
I reckon that this time you may have bitten off more than you can chew!
Well I saw them cheep. Original owner was a nut about these types of speakers and the seller told me that the speakers had a load of extra bits n bobs (he forgot to load) so I thought it's a good deal. Volt drivers are used by ATS I believe and are good drivers outright. I'm gonna give them ago.
If you don't hear from me well "that's all folks"!

Pictures side by side for easy comparison.
The boards in the left hand image have obviously been worked on (witness the messy soldering), while those in the right hand image look untouched.
When you plug into the mains I hope you are not reminded of The Great Soprendo, the magician whose catchphrase was, "Piff Paff Poof"!
Above, Geoffrey Durham as The Great Soprendo - familiar to 1980s viewers of the BBC children's show Crackerjack!
Thanks, I have got that page but not yet read into it.The only Shackman expert still alive may be R. Römer.

I will as soon as
I'm gonna have a good look at everything then give it a go. By everything I mean loose cable's indications of over heating etc...
I'm finding bits n bobs about them eg

And this, bit hard to read

Will keep trying

Below, one can just about make out the specs for the "AS Continental 7" which looks to be basically the same speaker.
I came across the following information:
The larger version of the Alex Shackman electrostatic unit crossed over at 400 Hz and was initially used in conjunction with a 10" Richard Allan bextrene coned woofer before the rights of manufacture were assigned to Volt after Alex's sudden death.
Your speakers, which contain 10" Volt woofers, will be rare since Volt ceased making and selling them after just a few units.
Thanks Galu, I've been looking around and have sent a message via this site http://shackman-neu-test.reromanus.net/ for assistance eg maintenance and proper usage
Yes thay do seem very rare, I can only find records of 2 pairs. And like #31 states thay are no longer made. Also I mentioned the seller had extra panels and other bits n pieces that the original owner had (who apparently was mad about them) will be sent to me later this week.
#30 Rayma
Good idea ad will do.
The test play I did yesterday, the lower frequency needs tuning and the high I must say had no sparkle at all. So I will let them charge up for a day or two

Connections to the panels are all the same.
Where do I go from here? Had a listen but no sparkle in high frequency. Still plugged in, give it tonight then try in the morning. Bass has potential. Sound levels are more or less the same volume.
